SHOW & TELL #11 Roadrunner

This is my SHOW & TELL for this week. It is a very old Road Runner that my father bought for my mother about 60 years ago. It is glazed and muted blue & tan colors. The beak was broken at some point in time and re glued on. Otherwise it is in perfect shape. The Road Runner is New Mexico's State Bird.




I had this Road Runner for a number of years and gave it to my oldest daughter, Suzette, when she got married as a wedding gift from her deceased grandmother. Suzette proudly displays this Road Runner in her beautiful home.

    I love your road runner! Our family has one too! Not like yours, ours is made of green swirley looking glass. I hated it as a child but my mom loved it. My sister has it now sitting on her piano. (I still hate it!).

    I'm sure Suzette really cherishes your family heirloom! It's so unique and such a treasure; I'm sure so many memories are associated with it as well!

    It reminds me of a piece that my grandmother gave me as a wedding gift just a few months ago. It's a handpainted bowl that was a wedding gift to my great-grandparents. Every time I look at it, I think of how it has survived so much over the years. I hope to pass it to my daughter or grand-daughter one day.

    Your road runner is quite nice and a true heirloom.

    My husband has been fascinted by road runners since his first trip to West Texas and New Mexico. I bought him a big iron one several years ago while we were in Texas. It currently guards our deck.

    Love your road runner. I have one also, but mine is wood. I think they are soo cute. It's treasure that your daughter can have it. Reminds of that cartoon I watched as a child.

    Isn't it special to have something so loved to pass down to our children.
    I have an old clock that sat in my parents home for years. All of my five kids want it. My solution, a round robin. After I'm gone, they each have it for a year then pass it down to the next in line. The round robin will be used for any things more than one kid wants.

    What a neat idea to pass that unique gift on to your daughter. We gave our kids a pair of Dutch wooden shoes at their wedding, hehe. We told them we would start a tradition and with each little Moreno they brought into the world we would give them a pair of little wooden shoes to set out at Christmas for Dave and I to fill with treats. Maybe someday we will get to do just that :)
