WHAT IS TRUTH?

Have you ever pondered this question?

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

In today's society is is easy to speak of GOD. Because GOD can mean many different things to many different people. God to some can mean the god of Mohammad, the god of Islam, the Secret, the Universal god, the Spirit god, it goes on and on.

It is becoming harder and harder to find acceptance to the name JESUS. Yet Jesus is the way, the truth, the life. Did He say "no man cometh unto the Father, but by me"? What does that do with the theory that there are many ways to God.

The worst danger is in 1/2 truths. That is the ploy that satan has used from the beginning. When he tempted Eve in the garden: "And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of EVERY TREE of the garden?" Genesis 3:1b

What God had said was, "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, of EVERY TREE OF THE GARDEN THOUS MAYEST FREELY EAT: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shall surely die." Genesis 2:16-17

"Not eat of every tree" - Satan - VS - "Thous mayest freely eat, but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil" - God

Eve answered in a 1/2 truth saying, "But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die." Genesis 3:3 No where did God say "neither shall ye touch it".

Full lie: "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:" Genesis 3:4 God had said they would surely die.

In our society we are bombarded with 1/2 truths, or out and out lies on every side. We know, even as we watch and hear them, that the claims of advertising we see and hear, day in and day out, on TV and radio are not truth. We listen to the politicians, and know that 1/2, or more, of what we are being told is not truth. We have become so accustomed to it that we readily accept it. The really sad part is we hardly know truth when we do hear it.

If we are not careful, all the above is conditioning us to believe 1/2 truths, and out and out lies. Causing unbelief about what God, our Lord Jesus, the Christ, and the Bible, God's Holy Word, are telling us Truth is.

"Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me."

THIS IS TRUTH!!!!

John 14:6

  4. Satan is so very good at using PART of the message or twisting the message to mean something else. We really have to be careful!

  5. Oh you are so right! (Of course- you are speaking the truth!)

It frustrates me that we are so accepting of half truths... even in the Christian community. Truth is black and white, not gray, and we need not be afraid of the truth. (The truth shall set us free!).

    Thanks for the inspiring words.

  8. Boy is that ever true! I got into an argument one day with a gal at church who thought there were many paths to heaven. That was several years ago and she still stubbornly refuses to believe in the truth of John 14:6. We have since moved 800 miles away but I still pray and now and then for her to find the truth.

  9. Except that the bible says that a bat is a bird and claims that the whole of the world's biodiversity stemmed from what was crammed onto a boat.

For me these obvious untruths cast a pall of doubt over the whole book. Not to mention talking snakes the errors introduced by countless translations.

  11. We can only know what truth is by what the Bible says and it says in John 17:17 "Santify them through thy truth; thy word is truth."

Susan, this is a great and important post. I appreciate all that you had to say about truth. Thanks, connie from Texas

  17. Hi there, found your blog (I am new to this little world) and thought what you had to say is so true. Satan is so powerful and almost more powerful when he is subtle in half truths.

  19. The name of Jesus is very offensive to many people. Because it calls them on so many things they are doing in darkness.
I agree totally with you. Half truths are half lies. We've got to tell the truth! Eternity depends on it!

  22. Terrific thoughts - a lot of 'bad truth' was thrown at me in college in my Intro to Ethics class - yuck! Very frustrating class and so hard to watch other students 'falling' for it all.

    Truth! God's truth - wonderful!

  24. As I relived our painful past to Second night before last, I explained this very thing to him. His own father lived by false truths (not to mentioin drugs) and ended up dead.

There is but one truth to live by and His name is Jesus. :-)
