This is a quilt that I spent hours embroidering in 1980-81. It was a kit top that I purchased. After completing it I just folded it up and put it away because I do not quilt and did not know how to get it finished. About 10 years later my sister-in-love in Memphis told me about some women in a church in a smaller town in Tennessee who still got together and did hand quilting. I sent it to her and told them to take as long as they needed to finish it. I waited over a year and then it came in the mail one day.
Here is another view of it. I use it on the antique Jenny Lynn bed in our guest bedroom, Both the bed and the quilt are treasured items,

the quilt is absolutely beautiful, susan. and i'm sure it's even more special that you did the embroidery on it. i would make a trip into that room every day just to admire it. thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteThat is so funny because I did the almost same thing! I embroidered a bedding thing---it had even more on it than yours and it was back in the 80's too. Then I tried quilting it and it was taking so long I tried sewing it with the machine and I ruined it!!! I saved it for a long time because so much work had gone into it and I thought I would try fixing it; but unknown to me the closet I stored it in was damp and it got ruined!!!! YIKES!!! Glad you had a success story!

ReplyDeleteSusan. I love it so much. Everyone, if you did not click to enlarge these photos, you must. Look at all that beautiful hand-work. They don't make 'em like that anymore. Even the super-expensive quilts are usually machine quilted. This is gorgeous.

I love it Susan. I so wish I could have stopped over and spent a night in that bed. We didn't go throught your state as the weather that way was worse following all the ice and power shortages.

ReplyDeleteWow...That quilt is AMAZING. I have a four generation patchwork quilt, but I only tufted it instead quilting it. My MIL's grandmother started it, her daughter added on, my MIL added on the last squares and bought the backing. I sewed it all together and tufted it.
