My show and tell today is something VERY different.
It is two bags of shredded money!!!.
(sorry I didn't get the picture turned before blogging it!!)
These little plastic bags are 6 1/2" tall by 4" wide.
Around the $ sign is a circle with the words
Federal Reserve Bank.
of Kansas City.
On the back, printed in another circle is:
$$$
Federal
Reserve Banks
replace all "unfit"
currency--worn, torn, or
dirty bills. Tenth District
offices in Kansas City,
Denver, Oklahoma City,
and Omaha shred about
$19 million in unfit
currency a
week.
My husband worked for Bri*nks Ar*mored C*ar and retired from there in 1997. This explains how we happen to have these interesting items sitting on the shelf in our guest bedroom. We have no idea how many millions they may be shredding 10 years later in 2007-8.
I thought this was an interesting and different item to share. Maybe some of you home school mom's can share this with your kids when teaching about money.
It's your show and tell fan here..... How cool! I always think about how something we put lots of worth into is really only paper...and shredded at some point to boot. Love this.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that they shred it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
I LOVE your post! I have seen these before and even the Christmas wreaths they make out of it. I think that is so cool...oh, that is so the 60's...what should I say now?? Ok, let's just stick with cool!!
ReplyDeleteI remember having something similar to that when I was little - I wonder what we did with them???
ReplyDeleteQuintin will be fascinated but I may not show him. He knows where our paper shredder is HAHAHA!!!
Very interesting bags of money, even if it's shredded to pieces :). I'm sure it becomes a great conversational piece in your home.
ReplyDeleteHave a Fantastic Friday!
Kathi :)
Cool! But I could see my kiddos trying to tape them back together;)
ReplyDeleteWell this certainly was different Susan.
ReplyDeleteHoping we will get to see theinside of your RV now the carpets are clean.
Baking soda was certainly what we used during the war.
Just needed to pop over before going on holiday to the Yorkshire Dales tomorrow.
Well neato!
ReplyDeleteWe did a unit study on our currency and did study the shredded or destroyed money!
What cool things you have to show and tell Susan!
Jennifer
I used to work in a bank, and although I knew the old/torn/tattered notes were shredded, never seen any before.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Too bad it's shredded. (smile) I have some in a smaller bag from my trip to DC. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that that much gets shredded. I will use this tidbit with my kids when we do talk about the reserve and all.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting!
Wow! I'm not sure if I knew they shredded money! Very interesting post. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting,
diane
I'm like Carla's kids. I would try to tape them back together ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is really cool!
ReplyDeleteI was in a local thrift shop on Wednesdsy and saw a similar bag of shredded currency. The label told the type of bill ($10, @20,etc) included in the bag.
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting, Susan! I had no idea they shred the money!
