A REMINDER

We, as a family, are going through some trying times and issues in our lives.
I have spoken often about how God ALWAYS places before me the very words of encouragement, reprimand or insight that I need.
Such was the case this morning during our Bible reading and prayer time when our daily reading from MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST, by Oswald Chambers was this:

Receiving One's Self In The Fires Of Sorrow

"What shall I say? Father, save me, from this hour? But for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify Thy name." John 12:27-29 RV

"My attitude as a saint to sorrow and difficulty is not to ask that they may be prevented, but to ask that I may preserve the self God created me to be through every fire of sorrow. Our Lord received Himself in the fire of sorrow, He was saved not from the hour, but out of the hour.

We say that there ought to be no sorrow, but there is sorrow, and we have to receive ourselves in its fires. If we try and evade sorrow, refuse to lay our account with it, we are foolish. Sorrow is one of the biggest facts in life; it is no use saying sorrow ought not to be. Sin and sorrow, and suffering are, and it is not for us to say that God has made a mistake in allowing them.

Sorrow burns up a great amount of shallowness, but it does not always make a man better. Suffering either gives me my self or it destroys my self. You cannot receive your self in success, you lose your head, you cannot receive your self in monotony, you grouse. The way to find yourself is in the fires of sorrow. Why it should be so is another matter, but that it is so is true in the Scriptures and in human experience. You always know the man who has been through the fires of sorrow and received himself, you are certain you can go to him in trouble and find that he has ample leisure for you. If a man has not been through the fires of sorrow, he is apt to be contemptuous, he has no time for you. If you receive yourself in the fires of sorrow, God will make you nourishment for other people."

*************

I am so thankful for God's faithfulness to me, in the good times and in the trying times. HE is my ever present source of comfort and strength and truly HIS peace passeth ALL understanding. On the solid rock I stand - All other ground is sinking sand.

IN GOD WE TRUST - By Paul Harvey

HOORAY, HOORAY, HOORAY for Paul Harvey. I myself have been grumbling and wondering how a handful of people have been able to take our right to pray in public places away from us. So, agreeing with Paul, I GLADLY say, Folks, this is the Month that we RE-TAKE AMERICA

**********Get Ready**********
This is the United State of America, a country founded on Christian principles. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations. Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying. God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me. The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want.
It is time that the majority rules!

It's time we tell them, You don't have to pray; you don't have to say the Ledge of Allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right; but by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back and we WILL WIN!

God bless us one and all...
Especially those who worship Him, God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all. God bless our military who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God. Let's make 2008 the yest the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions...And our military forces come home from all the wars. Keep looking up.
**********

I know this has been around before but as we are approaching July 4th and our celebrating of the Independence of Our Great Country let's renew this stand one and all.

A CROWN OF THORNS

A VERY belated thank you for a WONDERFUL gift I received some time ago from my dear friend, Jennifer. This crown of thorns I have hung on the corner of the paint by number of the Lord's Supper that I did 49 years ago. What a perfect place and reminder of the price that was paid by our Dear Savior and the Love of Our Father in sending His only begotten Son to die for me.

I truly have egg on my face for it being so long for me to acknowledge this gift of love. It truly is a gift of love, both in the making of it, and then in the packing and shipping of it.

I see it every day, Jen, and I love it. Thank you so very, very much!!!

SHOW & TELL #19 - Fruit of the Spirit Flower Bed

Friday, once again, and time for Show & Tell at Kelli's. Drop over and join in the fun of sharing something to Show & Tell.

This is my Fruit of the Spirit Flower Bed we are developing. Here were have just planted Golden Moneywort. This is a ground cover and will fill in and hopefully look like a little stream.

This is the flowerbed with nine different shaped rocks that each have the name of one of the Fruit of the Spirit on them.

Click on the picture to enlarge and you can see these stones read Meekness, Faith, Love, Longsuffering, Gentleness & Temperance.

Here you can see the stones reading Gentleness, Joy & Peace. There are 2 plain stones holding down the metal frame. I have planted 6 each zinnia, portulaca & verbena. I hope to show you this flowerbed again later when the plants have grown and filled in some. This is just my feeble start.
Galatians 5:22 - 23 "Now the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
Many people refer to the fruit as fruits (plural) of the Spirit, but it is all one fruit (singular) of the Spirit. May we each be walking in the Spirit of God, bearing and developing this fruit in our lives.
Thanks for dropping by for my Show & Tell today. Be sure and visit all the others on Mr. Linky. It's such fun.

A GIFT!!!

LOOK!!!! what came in the mail for me yesterday all the way from South Africa. Retha, of Retha's Rambles , not only sent me a box of 40 Rooibos Teabags but had a special angel made for me. It is precious and adorable. Made out of wire and beads. The main part is silver with the halo and wings gold. Then I received a wonderful six page letter from Retha telling me more and sharing more with me. I love each and every part of it, Retha. Even the box with the South Africa stamps!!! Such a surprise and such a blessing.

Retha recently became the FIRST world wide participant in our Hearts In "1" Accord prayer team blog. I say first because I know that God has called this team to be a world wide 24/7 group. Circling the world with none ending, every hour, every day prayer. What a wonderful thing that will be.

Please drop over and meet Retha and get to know her. You will be blessed indeed.
Thank you so very much Retha. You surprised the socks off of me and blessed me to tears.

CELEBRATING

Father's Day! Here is Mickey with one of the many gifts the kids got him. It is a flashlight for your head, so your hands are free!!! The kids love it when Mickey gets a new hobby because they have some new things to get him for gifts.

I prepared dinner for 12 people who were coming after church. I am anxious to get home and tend to the meal and Mickey begins talking to another man in our church who has bee hives. I finally had to interrupt and say, "I hate to be rude, but I do have 12 people for dinner today!". We had a Spiral Ham, new red potatoes, fresh steamed green beans, corn, big vegetable salad, cranberries, and french bread. It was all lush if I say so myself :o)

David's birthday is June 22nd, next Sunday, so we celebrated both occasions. Suzette brought the desserts: A chocolate cake with whip cream icing for David's 44th birthday and a Marie Callendar's German Chocolate Pie for Father's Day (since Mickey loves German chocolate cake). Both really yummy.

Here is our birthday boy, David. This is the first time in YEARS that David has been with us on his birthday so it was a very special celebrating him & his dad on the same day.

Everyone had to have a look at the bee hive. We only got this one picture of Marc and Oksana doing so. Aric won't even open the french doors and go out into the back yard!!!! Got to get him over being so afraid of the bees!!!
Our pastor's sermon was WONDERFUL as always. He really challenged all of us, not just the men, to be completely honest with ourselves as to the truth about US individually. At the end he had all the men come to the front of the church. It was so awesome because our church body is full of many, committed men. Such a blessing.
*************
OTHER STUFF: Friday night we had our first prayer meeting in our new permanent prayer location. We only had 13 of us but it was wonderful and powerful.
Saturday night Mickey & I had received an invitation to attend a meeting at the Library where a woman who had been an intercessory prayer worker at Brownsville spoke. It just excites me that God is calling so many people to become serious about seeking Him, and His will for our lives, in prayer.
I trust all of you had a wonderful Father's Day celebrating your fathers. I feel so very blessed to have had a wonderful Father. Then double blessed to have a husband who has been a wonderful Father, to our 4 children, and now grandfather to our 3 grandchildren.

ENLIGHTENED PERSPECTIVE

The subjects covered affect us all on a daily basis. They're written by Andy Rooney, a man who has the gift of saying so much with so few words. Enjoy.......

I've learned.... That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.
I've learned.... That when you're in love, it shows.
I've learned.... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.
I've learned.... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.
I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being right.
I've learned.... That you should never say no to a gift from a child.
I've learned.... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.
I've learned.... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.
I've learned.... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.
I've learned.... That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.
I've learned.... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned.... That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.
I've learned.... That money doesn't buy class.
I've learned.... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned.... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I 've learned.... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.
I've learned.... That love, not time, heals all wounds.
I've learned.... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.
I've learned.... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.
I've learned.... That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.
I've learned... That life is tough, but I'm tougher.
I've learned.... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.
I've learned.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness w ill dock elsewhere.
I've learned.... That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.
I've learned.... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.
I've learned.... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
I've learned.... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.
I've learned.... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.
I've learned.... That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

AUTHENTIC - VULNERABLE - Part II

A few days ago I addressed being Authentic & Vulnerable and solicited your opinions. I had only 16 comments to this post. 2 of them were by the same person adding to their thoughts (thank you for that), and 1 was someone dropping by to say "hi" but didn't have time to read the post, and 1 said it was "food for thought". So 12 brave, souls stepped forward with their thoughts and view on the subject.

Thank you so much to you 12. In a way I was surprised by the lack of comments out of all the views I had that day!!!! On the other hand, it did not surprise me because of the topic. It's hard to be Authentic & Vulnerable!!!! The very topic of the discussion.

If you haven't already I trust you will read the first post and all the comments. I had said I would re post about this with my opinions and views after reading yours. I had my views firmly in place, but did not want to influence any of you with my views and truly wanted to hear yours.

It is very true that many who are afraid to be Authentic and Vulnerable are those who, usually as children, were hurt badly when they tried to be. The sad part about that, not only do you have the original hurt, it is compounded as adulthood comes. satan uses this tool to keep the healing that will come by being authentic and vulnerable in abeyance. It is only by being authentic and vulnerable that God can use those He puts in your life to respond to you in the loving, accepting way that is so needed to heal those early wounds. Any wound that is pushed down and not confronted just festers and gets worse with time. We want to appear so strong but God's own word tells us, "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." II Corinthians 12:9a

By our being authentic and vulnerable we give others the courage, and even sometimes the permission they need, to step out and be authentic and vulnerable, too. We truly do need each other.

I know, realize and acknowledge, that in the open forum of a public blog we can not be 100% transparent because of the others, who's lives intersect with ours, who's privacy is not ours to strip away. But that does not hinder us from being authentic and vulnerable about our thoughts and feelings as we honor others by protecting their right to chose what we share.

The really awful part of not being authentic and vulnerable is we hide behind a mask and end up presenting something other than our true selves to others. How can we ever be accepted and affirmed for who we really are, our true selves, when we are not showing that true self to those we interact with? It becomes a vicious, unending circle.

Diana wrote a wonderful separate post on this subject. Please go here and read it. It will bless you. Thank you Diana.

Jenileigh not only commented twice to my original post but her post last Saturday here is the most authentic and vulnerable post I have ever been privileged to read here in blogland. Jenileigh, no wonder God is using you, your family and children, in the powerful way He is. Your authenticity and vulnerability is a bright and shining light. Thank you so much. You are certainly "Letting your light shine."

May God help each of us to be authentic and vulnerable as we walk the path He has placed each of us on. May we encourage and give comfort to each other as we do so holding and building each other up .

THERE IS A SEASON - Part II

Does this guy look relaxed and comfy? He should & he is. The reason.......my sweet Mickey is once again RETIRED!!! Yippee!!!
He has retired 3 or 4 times, and his employer keeps calling him to come back to work.
This last time was September 26, 2007. This really was a God thing because our oldest son, David, returned home on September 30th and the extra finances were just what we needed at that time. God knows our needs, even before we do. What an awesome God we serve.

A few days ago I shared the title of this post and this verse with you:

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven."

Ecclesiastes 3:1

In that post I was relating it to our Spiritual walk and how God moves us from season and purpose to season and purpose. This time our "season" has changed once again on the "We are in the world but not of the world" arena. Several things in our lives had been moving along this line but while we were at International House of Prayer in Kansas City we knew it was "time". We returned from Kansas City on Sunday, May 25th. Monday was a holiday because it was Memorial Day and on Tuesday, the 27th, Mickey gave his notice. June 5th was his final day and yesterday we were so happy that he is now retired once again.

Mickey and I very much enjoy being together 24/7 .We have enjoyed that state many times, beginning in 1976 when we open our Real Estate business together and then in 1997 when he retired the first time and we travelled. Anyway we are very happy and we know that this is what he was suppose to do. We truly are busy about "redeeming the time" and "being about the Father's business."

SHOW & TELL #18 - Honey Bee's

It's Friday, and of course that means Show & Tell with Kelli. Go here and find out all about it. Then join the fun!!

Here's the latest at our house!!!! My husband is becoming a bee keeper. It is a subject he has been interested in and reading about for some time. When we were visiting in Virginia, his niece had a bee hive and more literature about them so when we got home he ordered a bee hive.

It's May 12th and the equipment has just arrived!!

Isn't this cute!!!

He is excitedly open the box. This is the top of the hive.

The grand kids were here and Oksana was excited and helping grandpa.

Aric was a little timid when he heard the word Bee's. But we finally convinced him this was just the hive and no bee's so he got in the picture for me!

Here is the assembled hive. It is cypress wood with a cooper roof. Isn't it beautiful.

Here is the completed hive. Mickey was able to get the bee's from one of the men from our church. So this shot is complete....the bee hive is assembled, painted, loaded with bees and placed in the spot he choose in our back yard.
Being good Christians, and good neighbors, Mickey had talked to both of our adjacent neighbors about it and they were not only agreeable but excited. We have no one behind us because we are on a greenbelt. Then he called the city and checked with them to be sure there was no city ordnance and there was not.
I'm already washing and saving glass jelly jars to put our honey in!! I think it might be a year before we actually get honey. I told Mickey the bee's and handling them was all his job and I wanted nothing to do with it. But, I told him I'll learn to make everything with the honey that can be made. Not only is it for eating and used in cooking, but they make soaps, lotions, candles, a variety of items.
***********
If any of you out there have bee's we'd be interested in hearing from you!!!

AUTHENTIC - VULNERABLE

AUTHENTIC

Webster: 1) Authoritative; reliable - 2) genuine; real

VULNERABLE

Webster: 1) That can be wounded or injured -

2) open to, or liable to be hurt by, criticism or attack.

The Lord has these two words running through my thoughts and heart this morning.

I was surprised when I looked up the official definition on authentic to see the first usage to be authoritative and reliable. I've always thought of, and used it, in the second definition of genuine or real.

So we must ask ourselves: Just how authentic am I? Am I authoritative? Am I reliable? Am I genuine? Am I real? Four very distinct questions and although similar, yet different. I could be very real and not be at all reliable. I could be very reliable. What I tell you I will do you can count on. But I might not be real about my motives. I could be very authoritative and not be genuine. I could be very open and genuine but not authoritative at all and not voice my true opinion or thought.

In thinking about being authentic I believe the main reason so many people aren't, both in real flesh and blood life and blogland, is the fear of the second word....being vulnerable. It's very true, if you are truly genuine and real, no false fronts, no phoniness, you will make yourself vulnerable. You could be wounded or injured and you most certainly will be open to, and quite liable to be hurt because you could be criticised and even attacked.

So what are the prices we pay for not being authentic, genuine and real?

I have my opinions, and as you know I don't hesitate to voice them. But before I do, and I will in a later post, I would love to hear what all of you have to say on this subject.

Here is a real chance to be AUTHENTIC and VULNERABLE

THERE IS A SEASON

I was recently sharing with a blog friend how very grateful I was that for a number of years now Mickey & I have begun each day spending 1 1/2 hours in Bible study and prayer time together. She then asked me what I did when I had small children. I thought it was a very thought provoking question. One you don't stop to think about until someone asks you!!! So I've been pondering it the last few days and decided to blog on the subject and my walk with God.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1

This is my story and how God has been at work in my life these many years.

We were a family that always attended church. I have worked most of my life since I was 19 up until about 8 years ago. I have had some short periods of not working off and on during that time. One of the longest was the 2 years I did not work after our first son was born.

So when asked by this friend what I did about Bible reading and prayer time when my children were young I had to come to the sad realization that as a family we did not do much. We always attended all church services, and we always said grace at the table, still do. We always said the little night time prayers with the children and taught them to pray them. We talked a lot about our beliefs and stressed them to the children. But as far as family devotions we never did that......I am ashamed and sorry to say this....but it's the truth.

I was saved at the age of 18, on September 24, 1956. My Christian growth has been slow, but progressive. Looking back over the years I can see God's hand so clearly. There are several things the Lord has used primarily in this.

First, is the written word, both God's and others. I have always been an avid reader. Right after I was saved a woman at the Church hand me the complete and unabridged edition of THE CHRISTIAN'S SECRET OF A HAPPY LIFE by Hannah Whitall Smith. Hannah was a Quaker and her book was first published in 1870. The simplicity of Hannah's writing as she talks about our LOVING FATHER GOD and the fact I had such a wonderful relationship with my earthly father was used greatly from the beginning for me to grasp and plant deep in my heart how much I was loved and cared for by God. It is a basic truth that has never left me, even in my darkest moments and trials.

Contrary to some people God has seen fit to move us from church to church and from denomination to denomination. In doing so I have been blessed with some wonderful pastors and teaching. I was saved in a small Independent Baptist Church. After Mickey & I met and married in 1958 we continued there and our two closest friends also began attending with us. On Sunday night AFTER church the 8 of us (Pastor Charlie and his wife, Jean, my forever friend Joan and her husband, my newly made friend, who would also become a forever friend, Bev and her husband, and Mickey & I) would gather around our kitchen table and discuss and study the Bible. . Charlie was aware we were 6 young adults who were eager to follow God and learn all we could. He truly discipled us!!!

Being a reader it was easy for me to quickly develop reading the Bible regularly. I was also devouring one religious book after another. I seldom read anything else and quite often had 2 or 3 books going at the same time. This habit has continued all these years. I have learned much and been blessed much in reading.

After moving to Tulsa in 1964 I discovered Christian radio and learned a great deal by listening to various preachers and teachers. One 1/2 hour teaching after another 1/2 hour teaching.

Over the years we have attended the following churches: Independent Baptist, Southern Baptist, Bible, Vineyard, 3 non-denominational, and currently Assembly of God. I was employed at Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association, in the accounting department, for 3 years. At that time they had Chapel Services every Friday and that was my first exposure to Pentecostal. We were blessed to attend the Brownsville Revival in Pensacola, Florida twice in 1999. God has used these various avenues to stretch us, to grow us and to give me a view of the true Body of Christ and Universal Church that I address often.

In 1977 we decided to put our two sons in private christian schools which were connected to a Bible Church. We transferred our church membership there. This was a wonderful move for us. The pastor was a great bible teacher and they promoted Bible Memory Association. I immediately signed up and completed 3 courses of Bible Memory work. So after being a faithful Christian, church goer, Bible reader, and religious book reader the Word of God suddenly became alive to me. I fell in love with the WORD. I have never lost that love and excitement about the Word of God and it has grown consistently throughout these years.

In 1984 our family began to face very serious family problems which ended up affecting our marriage of 25 years. It was the worst period of my life and it was only my strong faith in God and his WORD and truths that helped me stay and fight for my marriage. At this time I discovered TBN and other religious broadcasting which I listened to & absorbed hour after hour. It was also the support of my two close Christian forever friends who helped me stay the course and win the battle.

Although faithful in the Word and "jiding the word in my heart that I might not sin against him" I suddenly realized although I prayed, and prayed a lot, I didn't know the first thing about prayer or how to pray. I began to ask God to show me and teach me about praying as He prayed and wanted us to pray. I began reading every book I could on prayer and seeking His face about it. Slowly the prayer world began to open up to me. Getting to know Jesus on a one-to-one personal level. Not only as Savior, and then Lord, but as Friend!!!

At this same time we started attending a Vineyard church. It was Vineyard that exposed and showed us about true worship of God through song. It was during our years at Vineyard that we participated and learned about Cell Groups. It was at Vineyard that the second most important event in my walk with Jesus occurred when I was filled with the Holy Spirit on July 20, 1986. Valuable experiences that grew me and stretched me yet more.

My prayer life was increasing as God began to answer my prayer. You know "He gives us the desires of our heart." When we "Seek Him with your whole heart you shall find Him."

These last years, since moving to Coweta in 1998, we have attended non-denominational churches and now The Assembly of God. It was in 2000 that the second most important book of my Christian walk came to my hands. ANDREW MURRAY ON PRAYER. If you are a regular reader you know I have mentioned this book over and over again.

In 2004 after fasting for 12 days in the Arizona desert His word to us was Colossians 4: 5 & 6 - "Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how we ought to answer every man." We parked the RV in May 2004 and we have been endeavoring to redeem the time as we have been instructed by His WORD.

I've gone into a lot more than just what we did when our children were young, but I felt it was important to share with you how God has worked and is working in my life..

2008 has been another pivotal year for us. On January 1st our Church theme for the year was "I WANT MORE" of God. As we have pressed into that God has moved us into the middle of what He is doing and speaking, on a world-wide level, now to THE CHURCH "Pray without ceasing". So we truly are seeking to "Redeem the time & pray without ceasing."

Please join me in both!
