I am again participating in Spiritual Sunday. Please go here to visit the various posts for Spiritual Sunday.

"The art of being happy lies in the power

of extracting happiness from common things."

Henry Ward Beecher

I saw this quote by Henry Ward Beecher recently and liked it. Henry lived from 1813-1887 and was a Congregationalist clergyman. When I looked him up I was not surprised to find this information our because this quote could certainly tie in with one of my favorite verses.

"Not that I speak in respect of want:

for I have learned in whatsoever state I am,

therewith to be content,

I know both how to be abased,

and I know how to abound:

every where and to all things

I am instructed

both to be full

and to be hungry,

both to abound

and to suffer need."

Philippians 4: 11-12

May we truly be content right where we are with our Lord & Savior, right at this moment in time, right where He has placed us for what He is calling us to do today.

SHOW & tELL #8 - Fabric Give-A-Way

I always love sharing on Friday in Show 'N Tell sponsored by Kelli. It is always fun to select something to show and share and then the double treat of getting to visit all the other blogs who are also participating. If you haven't participated yet you must....you will be blessed and be a blessing. Go here to participate and sign-up on Mr. Linky.

Today I am Showing, Telling & Giving Away!!

Over the years I have done a LOT of sewing. When my daughters were young I made a lot of their dresses, plus a lot of my own. My mother was a great seamstress and I learned most of my sewing skills first hand from her. I did take one Sewing Class in Junior High School where we made an apron!!!!

I loved going to the Fabric Store and picking out a new pattern to make, and then selecting just the right fabric for it. My sewing skills were limited to clothing and some curtains, place mats, etc. I never got into tailoring or doing any fancy gowns. Most of my sewing was for us gals, although I did do a few items for my husband & sons. When I was p.g. with our last child I made ALL my maternity outfits (we didn't wear pants in those days!!!).

That's my TELL

about my past sewing skills. At this point in my life I no longer do any sewing. In cleaning out "stuff" for my garage sale last week-end I discovered a box of fabric I had put back and forgotten about. I thought it would be fun to have a drawing here on Show & Tell to give it to one of my Blogland friends who sews and could use a little stash of fabric.

Here is my SHOW

Eight different pieces of fabric ranging in sizes of 3/4 yard, 1 1/2 yards, . 2 1/2 yard, 3 yards & 3 1/2 yards. Most are cotton but there is one satin and one upholstery fabric.

Here is my GIVE-AWAY

SO.... if you sew and could use some extra fabric please let me know by telling me in your comment that you would like to be entered in my drawing for this fabric. I will draw the winning name on Monday, June 1st and announce the winner in a post that day.

Oh, and by the way, even if you are not interested in the fabric drawing please don't forget to leave me a comment. You know how we love to read comments about our posts.

A VIDEO & MUST READS in my opinion!!!

Even though I am an avid reader I have only recommended 3 books in the 2 years & 4 months I have been blogging. The first was Crash Point, the second, The Shack, and on February 15h The Last Jihad, by Joel Rosenberg.

We just finished reading the 5th of Joel's fiction series: The Last Jihad, The Last Days, The Ezekiel Option, The Copper Scroll and Dead Heat. We are currently reading his first non-fiction book: Epicenter.

These books are absolutely MUST reads for anyone who wants to stay current with what is going on in our world from both a political & Biblical view.

The Word tells us to have "eyes to see & ears to hear" and repeatedly warns us of those who "seeing, see not, and hearing, hear not".

If you cannot see and hear that our world is changing, literally by the day and hour, then I beg of you to open your eyes and your ears to what God is telling us.

My constant prayer is that each and every one of you know Jesus as your Savior & Lord. If you do not please don't wait another minute to 1)believe with your heart that Jesus is truly the Son of God, 2) confess to God that you are a sinner and ask Him to forgive you, 3) invite Jesus to come into your heart 4) acknowledge that He has died for your sins & that God raised Him the dead to give you eternal life, then 5)confess Him with your mouth and you shall be saved. Salvation is a free gift from God. There is NOTHING we can do to earn it. But you must believe it and accept it to posses it.

A special thanks to my dear friend Ginger for forwarding me the video.

My daughter, Suzette, always says. "Good things come in 3's." and this is surely true of this lovely give-away that I just won.

Tammy, of Country Girl At Home, had a drawing to celebrate her 200th post on May 13th and my name was drawn on May 15th.

Friday, while I was burning in the sun having my garage sale, this huge package arrived!!! How exciting.

(Click picture to enlarge)

A distressed, black colonial 16" x 12" shelf built by her husband, Jason. I love it and have the perfect place for it. I'll show you when we get it hung!!!!

A stitch, tea stained "Believe" primitive art piece 11 1/2' x 12" in a lovely distressed frame and an 8" tall pineapple dish.

Such a lovely give away, Tammy. I'm so glad Joy picked my name :o)

If you haven't already met Tammy please drop by and visit her blog. She & her husband are always doing neat things around their home. Right now they are in the midst of a bathroom makeover that we are all eagerly waiting to see.

ABUNDANCE

On May 13th I posted about Mickey's strawberry patch and the small handful of ripe berries we had picked here.

Well, 10 days later, here is what we harvested Saturday.

Here is my ever faithful ice cream bucket that I use for everything with the freshly picked strawberries.

The large bowl of washed and pitted berries.

Best of all.... my bowl of fresh sliced berries with sugar and cream that was my Sunday breakfast. Yum!!!!

As if that wasn't enough......here is fresh picked spinach, green onions, and radishes from Mickey's labors. I took this picture just before making a wonderful salad along with my home made Vinaigrette dressing. A lovely addition to our Sunday lunch of meatloaf, baked potato, cream corn and toasted garlic bread.

Abundance indeed!!!! Webster's "great plenty" and "more than enough".

Please join in reading about my garage sale on Hands & Hearts For HIM.

WONDERFUL QUOTES

BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN SISTER

By Maya Angelou

'A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ

That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.'

When I say...'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean living,'

I'm whispering 'I am lost, Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say...'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride,

I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say...'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong,

I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success

I'm admitting I have failed, and need God to clean my mess.

When I say...'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far to visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say...'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain...

I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say...'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou.

I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

TODAY IS BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN SISTERS DAY

I received this from a Beautiful Christian Sister

I'm supposed to send this to BEAUTIFUL WOMEN.

That's why I've placed it here!!!

People May Not Remember exactly what you did, or what you said,

~BUT ~ THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE

THEM FEEL

My father always and consistently told me,

'Beauty is as Beauty does'

I'm God confident'

I LOVE SUNDAY

We begin our Sunday with our own private Bible reading and prayer time. Don't know if I've mentioned it or not, but we are currently reading the New Testament in The Narrated Bible in Chronological Order (NIV) I bought Mickey for his birthday last November. It is very interesting.

We had a guest Missionary speaker in both the a.m. & p.m. Church services today. Both services were wonderful and the worship in the evening was awesome. Our dear, wonderful Pastor and his wife are on a MUCH needed two week vacation.

I had put potato's and chicken breasts in the oven on time cook and it was so nice to come in, add some green beans, cottage cheese, and toast a couple of sliced french bread and have a yummy lunch all ready.
Mid-afternoon we listened to tape 2 of a 4 tape series on The Tabernacle. This series is really good.
After church we went to Wal*lywo*rld. They had advertised a 5' folding table for $37 (while supply lasts) and the sale started Sunday. Since our family dinner celebrations are growing we needed another table (we have outgrown the dining table and card table). They did not have the table. In fact, the manager of that department said they did not ship our Co*we*ta store ANY of those tables. That the "bigger" stores get things like that. They had a 6' folding table but it was $54. She was pointing that out to us and we said we'd seen it but weren't willing to go that high on the price. Mickey said, "How about letting us have this one for the $37 since you didn't get any?" He was just joking with her but she said, "I can sell you this table for the $37 sales price if you promise to come back and shop here some more." We laughed and said, "We are in here on a weekly, and sometimes daily basis." So we were blessed to acquire the 6' folding table for $37. WOW -- our God amazes us with His blessings. Praise God!!!
Then we went to McD's (just across the street) for coffee & apple pie (Mickey) & a hot fudge sundae (me!). Taking our order was a young man that we use to go to church with as a young kid 10 years ago. It was nice seeing him, and catching up a little on his parents & siblings. When we walk into the dining area we see our dear friend, that I go to BOTH Bible studies a week with, Wantha Ann and her daughter, son-in-law, and 3 grandchildren. We have a wonderful time visiting with them. Marty, who is the manager of the Bl*ue Be*ll ice cream plant, teases me about being a traitor with my ice cream sundae!!!!
Yes, I love Sunday's and I love living in this small community where God has seen fit to place us at this time of our lives. Most of the people have grown up here and have known each other since grade school but they have welcomes Mickey & I (strangers!) into their midst with open arms.
By the way, Saturday was lovely, too!!!! We went out in the evening to the pizza shop and when we got home we could tell Marc had been here. We were so sorry we missed him........as soon as we were saying this here he came driving back into the drive way. He had seen us in his rear-view mirror as he was heading out on the highway and we had turned into our addition from the other direction. DeAnn was with him, actually he was bringing over things for a garage sale we are hoping to have this week-end, IF it doesn't rain AGAIN. They came in and stayed awhile and we had a really nice visit. Even showed DeAnn some childhood photos of Marc. Having all the pictures on the computer in files is such a blessing!!!

I am one happy, blessed woman!

To Those of You Born 1930 - 1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's & 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no clildproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would rise in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared on soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-aid made with real white sugar. And we weren't overweight.

WHY? Because we were always outside playing....that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to sole the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable,no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.

WE HAD FRIENDS

and we went out and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS!

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors,

doesn't it?

~ Quote by Jay Leno !

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu (this year it's swine flu my insert) and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

I received this as an e-mail from a friend. It was so good I wanted to share it here.

JACQUE'S FRIENDS & FUN IN FLORIDA

Each April our daughter, and a group of her friends from Junior & Senior High School days, flies to Florida to visit a friend who lives there. She came home with a ton of pictures and I picked out these few to post for Jacque and her friends.

I'm starting with this picture because it shows the husband, Randy, in one shot before he departed to visit his mother for the week and leave these gals to themselves.

This is Jacque and Becky who they are all visiting.

A couple shots of Randy & Becky's beautiful home.

Randy rented them this limo for their one big night out on the town and to a concert.

From left to right: Theresa, Renee, Becky, Kathi, Caryl, Kathi & Jacque.

Jacque relaxing her feet for a brief moment & hamming it up.

One of their many lunches out.

Good friends just having fun.

In the pool - Jacque is in the foreground.

Taking a spin in Randy & Becky's boat.

Three of the 6 as they are flying back to Tulsa. Tired, happy and already talking about "next year".

It is so wonderful that these girls, now woman, have remained good friends all these years and that Becky & Randy share their beautiful home with them each year in such a loving and gracious way.

SHOW & TELL #7 - Lupine Plants

I finally have a chance to participate in Show & Tell once again.

It is always such a treat to do so and then visit other blogs who have done so. To be part of all this fun visit Kelli's site and sign up on Mr. Linky.

Today I am showing our Lupine plants that are blooming!!!

My dear friend, Anita, from Germany sent us these wonderful seeds last spring.

We planted the seeds and they did not seem to do much and we thought it was perhaps our weather here versus Germany.

Well THIS spring, when we cleared the bed , here were these lovely green lupine plants growing. Now look.......beautiful purple spikes.

We still had some of the seeds left so we planted them in small pots and started them in the garage under the growth light. We recently planted quite a few of them in my "Fruit of the Spirit" flower bed. I am believing by next spring they will be blooming there, in addition to these spreading in this corner flower bed.

Anita has absolutely one of the most beautiful gardens ever. I am just so honored to have this little touch of that beauty now blessing us. I hope you will go visit her blog, My Country Cottage Garden. You will be in for a real treat. Be sure and tell her Susan sent you.

GLENN BECK - 9 Principles & 12 Values

I don't know how many of you have been listening to Glenn Beck but he is not only doing a good job of reminding us that WE ARE NOT ALONE but exposing a LOT of things that badly need to be exposed, and no one else seems to be doing so. I think that many of us still believe in good principles and the values our great country was founded on and stood for.

Please read these 9 Principles and 12 Values and if you are in agreement begin to watch his program and take a stand to return our country to the greatness it once had. The program airs on Fox News at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

The Nine Principles
1. America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government..
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE - If you agree with at least seven of those principles, then YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

12 VALUES
Honesty
Reverence
Hope
Thrift
Humility
Charity
Sincerity
Moderation
Hard Work
Courage
Personal Responsibility
Gratitude
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Wondering what the rest of you are thinking about this.
Please comment, either pro or con, as I'd really like your opinions.

STRAWBERRY PATCH

The strawberry patch is starting to do really well and a few of the strawberries are beginning to ripen. Mickey came up with the idea of putting deer netting over the patch to keep the birds from eating the berries as fast as they ripen.

He purchased a roll of the deer netting Saturday. Today he had cut two lengths of it and between the two of us we got it sewed together. He made a "needle" out of a piece of wire and tied pink twine to it. As I held the two pieces of netting together he did the sewing. It took a little while, but we got the job done. Here he is hold up the finished piece.

Can you see a few of the berries that are turning red? This patch is loaded with unripened berries and lots of blooms.

He positioned this board in the middle and then stapled the netting over the board and drapped it down over the two sides.

Here is our first small batch of ripen berries. Yummy!!

BLOGGER LOVE & GENEROSITY

Love & generosity is spelled ....... Michelle of Ozark Sew 'n Sews.
Look at the labor of love in this beautiful counted cross stitchery of the many names
of Jesus.
This lovely piece is 15 inches x 10 inches. Having done a lot of this type work in the past my self I know the many hours that it has taken Michelle. We are so deeply touched by this gift.
Michelle knows us well, and knew that nothing could mean more to us than the wonderful names of our Lord Jesus.
Along with it came this sweet note: "Dear Mickey & Susan - I sure hope you like this and that the color choice is okay. Susan hon, I remembered how you said if you could still cross stitch you would make one. So I wanted to do this for you both. God bless you guys. Huggles, Michelle & Jack"
Well, God surely blessed us and used your loving hands & hearts to do so.
Thank you so much.
If you aren't familiar with both Jack & Michelle's beautiful stitchery please check out their blog......It aptly carries the perfect name - Ozark Sew n' Sews.

EGG ON MY FACE

Confession is good for the soul.....but sometimes it leaves us with egg on our face.
Would someone please hand me a wash cloth?

We are a very close knit, loving family and usually celebrate every type of happening; Birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc. with a family get-together.

Since yesterday was Mother's Day, I am wondering where the kids are going to take me for dinner to celebrate this year.

Wednesday our younger daughter, Jacque, comes by to borrow our 4 folding chairs as their community, Bro*ken Arr*ow is having Rooster Day Celebration and she and Benny are going to set up a table outside Benny's business which is right on Main Street. She also brought photo's from her recent trip to Florida for us to look at. Jacque, who is a Pharmacy Tech has to work a lot of Sunday's and I ask her what her work schedule is for this week she says she has to work Saturday and has Sunday off. I say "Why don't you guys come and go to church with us this Sunday?" She then informs me she had signed up to walk the "Why Me?" cancer walk. She said she'd forgotten it was Mother's Day. Well, my heart kind of dropped. Mickey's says, "I'm going to take Mom out to The Chalkboard for dinner." One of my favorite places to eat in the old Ambassador Hotel downtown. I am thankful for my sweet, wonderful husband.
Our older daughter, Suzette and her husband, Dave, are on their annual May trip to Florida and are not due back until Saturday.

I do not hear a word from our younger son, Marc, since we picked up the grand kids on Wednesday from school.

Saturday morning when the mail comes I have a card from our older son, David, who is in California. As I come back into the house, with the envelope from the mail box, I have not even opened the envelope yet but I know it is a Mother's Day card and I say to Mickey. "Well at least one of the kids hasn't forgotten me on Mother's Day."

Can you tell I've found that "pity pot"? Oh, yes and I'm thinking, "I cannot remember a Mother's Day that we have not celebrated with our usual family get together." By Sunday morning, during our prayer and Bible study time (of ALL times) I am crying about my kids forgetting it was Mother's Day. Mickey is saying, "I'm so very sorry, honey."

We go to Sunday School and Church, which are both wonderful, and our dear friends Kahri & Michael come and sit with us. Such a joy to have the privilege of these dear friends attending the same church with us again. I am blessed.

During Church one of the songs we sang has the line "You are more than enough, more than enough, Jesus you're more than enough." As we are singing I become convicted of putting so much attention on "self" and I realize anew "Yes, my Lord is more than enough." As we leave church I tell Mickey about this and that I am now fine and sorry I got so hurt this morning. He says, "Good, I'm glad."

As we are driving he says, "I've decided not to go to The Chalkboard. I've picked out somewhere else in Bro*ken Arr*ow. I say that is fine and am really glad we are not going to drive all the way to downtown Tulsa. We drive along and finally I say, "Are you not going to tell me where we are going?" He says I've decided we'll go to Black An*gus Steak House. It's strange because when he said he'd picked somewhere else in B.A. I was thinking I hope it is that Steak House on Main Street.

Driving along, on the main street that runs along the turn-off to Jacque & Benny's , all of a sudden he says, "Let's stop and see if Jacque and Benny are home yet and see if they want to join us for dinner." I am NOT wanting to do this but he pays me no mind and proceeds. When we are in the drive-way I am refusing to go in and I'm saying, "I can't believe you're making me do this.....or is this something that's been planned?"

My sweet kids have planned a SURPRISE for me. Jacque & Benny are hosting the dinner and celebration. Boy, was it ever a surprise. I walk in and confess to Jacque who says: "Oh Mom I feel so bad that you got your feelings hurt and thought that!!! You know I'd never want to hurt your feelings."

When Suzette & Dave came in I confess to them. Suzette was almost a little angry about it and said, "I can't believe you'd even THINK that!". When Marc & the grands arrived I confessed to them. Marc said, "The last couple of days I'd start to call Mom and then decide not to. I knew I'd end up giving away our secret".
Dave & Suzette. These two & their "tans" had arrived home from their Florida trip at midnight last night.

Marc & Oksana (who never wants her picture taken!)

What a wonderful time we all had. Jacque & Benny (Benny does most of the cooking) had a wonderful dinner of Bar-b-que pork, Amish Green Beans (Benny's speciality at almost every family dinner we have), a new delicious Potato Casserole, Broccoli & Cauliflower salad, & rolls. For dessert: banana pudding & jello with fruit and Marc brought a Chocolate cake, & Macedonian nut cookies & chocolate chip cookies.

There were 16 of us!!!! In addition to Jacque & Benny - Suzette & Dave - Marc, Oksana & Aric - Mickey & I were Benny's son, Josh and his wife and young son, Daden, and DeAnn and her 3 sons, Mason, Aaron & Cody.

Yes, confession is good for the soul!!

These are my lovely gifts. The T-shirt reading "The only fish in the sea" & bottle of cologne are from Jacque & Benny. I love Christian T-shirts!! The cologne is Susan Lucci "s "Invitation". It is so neat because the bottle can be turned upside down and there are 2 separate fragrances....one on each side. The bottle is beautiful. Jacque said she knew I'd love the bottle!!!

The mug is from Marc and reads Mom - Love without end. Amen"

The white lace sandals from Suzette & Dave.

The Host & Hostess with the mostest!!!

As I dressed for church in this blue & white skirt and silver flats I I wished I had a pair of white flats.

One of the tables. The flowers are Jacque's Mother's Day gift from her daughter, Jessica. As usual Jessica missed the celebration as she served tables for other celebrating mom's!!! Jessica brought them over earlier with a wonderful, sweet, touching card.

Seating for two. These flowers were to Jacque from Josh, Jessica's boyfriend, in Florida. Do you think he knows how to make an impression on Mom?

Aric, Mason & Cody playing with a set of building magnets Madison brought along.

Dave had ridden over on his new toy. Suzette drove over separately.

Mickey & Jacque enjoying the bike, the day and each other.
When we got home at 5:30 I had two phone messages from my #1 son, David, in California. Returned his call after church and had a nice telephone visit.
Forgive me Lord for doubting.....and thank you for my wonderful kids.
& all the many blessings You bestow upon me.
