My Show & Tell this week is this very old push lawnmower.
I found this about 15 years ago at a garage sale for $1.

I painted it to match our house trim and use it on the front porch as an ornament.
Addendum: Since posting this I've been ask in comments if I'd ever used it. The answer is NO. It was far to old and rusty to use and will barely turn.
Oh wow....this is how I LEARNED to DRIVE!! LOL---no, really, I remember having to do the lawn mowing chore in the summer ---and I used a push mower! [What a fantabulous idea to make it a porch adornment!! You get an A+ for the imagination and know how!!]

ReplyDeleteMy grandmother used to have one of those and I'd mow for her when we visited - fun memories for me this morning. And, makes such a cute decoration, too!
ReplyDeleteWe have a big yard so we use a riding mower, but I have been looking for one of these for those small spots - but I can't find one anymore. I guess I need a dollar and the right yard sale!

Omigosh, Susan, that push lawn mower brings back so many memories for me. When I was a little girl, we had a camp and when we'd get there in the Spring to open up the camp for the Summer, dad would cut the grass using a push mower...I would always want to try it so he'd let me and then start laughing at me because I couldn't get the darn thing to move, especially with the grass being so long!! lol xox

I haven't updated it in forever, but I have a bunch of old things that belonged to my Grandma on my other blog. They are things she gave me that I just treasure. This reminds me of those things.

Oh what a FUN old push mower. :) My Father-in-law has one like it that my son actually used on our "very thin" grass a few years ago. He huffed and puffed and told of how much WORK it was, LOL! Very neat, and you sure can't beat the price!!!

I enjoy these - I must join in one Friday! Not that I have many things to share. This reminded me of a friend I had when I was 9 or 10, he used to help my Dad on the Farm and we went to School together. He wante d to earn some money mowing lawns (with a mower like this). He knocked on a door, and the lady said - yes son that would be great, took him around the back and he saw a field. It was a long afternoon with a hand mower. Oh I never forgot that funny tale. He did it too and was proud of his efforts.

ReplyDeleteOh, I have one of those too. Mine is not as old as yours. Sometimes when I am very upset or angry I go out and cut the back yard with it. Very theraputic!

ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, this was the first type of lawnmower I ever used. It was a great way to get lots of exercise, as there was 1/2 acre of lawn to mow. My brother and I took turns and by the time the entire lawn was mowed, it was time to take over. It took us about a week.

ReplyDeleteWe had one of those when I was a kid. I thought it was fun until I found out it was work. Our neighbor guy continued to use one even when everyone else went to a mower with a power. I always thought he was a bit strange...
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of setting it out for show. I'm not telling Dave or he will set his out for show and give up mowing...ahhh!
That's a great decoration. I had to use one of those as a kid. We actually borrowed it for the first house we rented, but I could barely even get the blades to turn, so that lasted about ten whole minutes before hubby bought a "real" one.

ReplyDeletei had a red wagon (old rusty thing!) that leo painted for me, and i used it as a flower pot! i could easily move it when the lawn needed mowing ... :o)
I think that was a great idea. In the picture it looks so good on your porch. It is hard to believe that people actually used those to cut grass. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. God Bless!
