IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS - Partridge in a Pear Tree

I thought I'd show my Partridge in a Pear Tree hanging and tell you a little about it. As you can see, it hangs over our couch in the living room.

It is quite large, measuring 4'9" tall by 3' wide.

I made this piece in 1965 - Oh my, that means it is 45 years old!!! Older than many of you who read this blog :o)

I t was a pattern I saw in a Woman's Day Magazine.
The background is blue canvas. You can see the blue color has faded over the years. The other pieces are felt and the tassels and partridge tail are yarn.

That year I made this Partridge for myself and one for my sister Marion. I also made two other smaller wall hangings of a Reindeer for my mother and mother-in-love.

Boy, looking back I am amazed at all I got accomplished in those years!!! Surely don't any more :o(

This hanging has hung in our home EVERY Christmas. My daughter, Suzette, now has the Reindeer that belonged to my mother. Jacque has already put in her "dibs" for this one!!! She'll get it!!

I love heirlooms and hope my kids and grands will continue to enjoy my treasures in the years to come.

  1. Susan, Your work is beautiful. The fact that it has "endured" is a testament to the quality of your work as well as to how you truly take care of what is now an heirloom. (Can you believe it?!?) Should I mention that I was 5 when you made that beautiful piece? : )

I love you, Susan. How blessed we are to be given the opportunity to enjoy God's creativity in you.

  2. I believe you've maybe shared this before or I've just spied it in past December posts!

It is so lovely!!! I wonder if the pattern is still around...

I love making thing by hand to one day pass down. I'm loving the Jesse Tree ornaments I've made this year, but I'm not sure we can break up the set so I do hope to make each of the children a set (or assist them in making their own). They've been such a treasure to see on our Advent Tree and the kids are realy enjoying the stories/devotionals.

  3. Leigh Ann - You are very astute!! Yes, I posted this, with some other Christmas items back in 2007!!! I have new readers and wanted to share it with them. I have no idea about the pattern, but it is basically simple so you might just copy my picture and measurements and go from there.

  6. What a treasure!! I don't have any wall hangings that I made. Now I wish I had so they could be passed down to my great grandkids. I guess it isn't too late.
