What's In A Name?

As you know, if you've been reading my blog any time at all, I have been totally fascinated with this new World of Blogging that I gingerly stepped into on January 21. There have been so MANY unexpected things it has brought.

ONE of those is about my name, Susan. In all of my long life I have "met" very few other people with the name Susan. In fact, until 5 years ago, there was never another Susan that I personally knew. The last church we attended had a Susie

So it has been very surprising and interesting how many Susan's, or derivatives of that name, I have "met" here in Blogdom in these past 91 days. Here they are:

Then today Jungle Hut had this link where you can see how many people share your name. I went to check mine out and boy was I EVER surprised to learn that 1,197,320 people have the name Susan and that it is the 25% most popular name. 48,154 share my same last name Joyce. That drops down into the 716% most popular.

The biggest surprise was that 192 other people are named Susan Joyce. I have yet to meet any of you in Blogdom but it you're out there I'd surely be delighted to know where and meet you.

I also found this information today:

Name: Susan
Gender female
Origin Hebrew
Meaning lily
Similiar Names Susannah, Susanne, Susanna, Susi, Suse, Suisan, Suzanne, Suzanna, Sosana, Susette, Suzette, Sue Anne, Sue Ellen, Susy, Susie, Soos, Susy, Suzie, Soozie, Sue, Sukie, Sukey, Zsa Zsa

I know that all you that aren't named Susan might not find this that interesting but have some fun and go check out your name and how many you've met on line and the other information and let me know.

As I keep repeating over and over again. I just find this World of Blogging such a fascination and joy.

Oh, thank you so much for the sweet wishes for me and my family. I miss Az. My brother and sister-in-law came back from Tulsa here just a year ago. They just finished up at Rhema.

I have seen your comments on a few other blogs. I welcome your thoughts. You have raised your family. So, I glean from the biblical "older woman shall teach the younger woman" if you don't mind.

Thank you for your blessings, and I will enjoy getting to know you thru your blog!

Blessings

I love the new picture of you and your man!!

I have found the same thing, I've seen a few other "Leigh Ann"s here too!
I did the name thing - with using only my true first name (Leigh) and last name, there was 1 person. When using Leigh Ann and my last name, there were 0. Ha ha, how is that for unique?

I have to tell you something funny. There were always two or three Susan's in my classes as a child. I always had to put my last initial to tell who I was. Several years ago, my brother and I were at a graduation and looked at all 700 names on the list and there was not ONE Susan on the list. My brother leaned over to me and said, "That's it, your name is like Gertrude---it's outdated." (I apologize if anyone named "Gertrude" is reading this blog.) I was CRUSHED! Just recently, I discovered a little "Susan" at my school and I was SO EXCITED!!

I loved your post...and so glad we met!

:-) Hugs.

Hmmm. There is one other "me" in the States. I am not unique after all! I have always known quite a few Susans, and it is a lovely name. Thanks for this info!

I love your new picture.
Isn't exciting to find out new information.
I tried my name, but the database couldn't find it:)

I do find that very interesting since my name happens to be Susan, but I've gone by Susie ALL MY LIFE. I don't quite know why they just didn't name me that. When I get called as Susan at the doctor's office or places of business, I often don't respond because it sounds so unfamiliar to me. I am so happy to share something in commom with you. I even did a meme once and tagged only fellow Susans, Susie's, Susanne's, etc. It was fun!

I did this quite some time ago. There are not many "Ginger's" to be found except maybe people's pets.
I'm so glad you "gingerly" stepped into blogging. Great choice of words, Susan.
