Those of you who have been following my blog know that we have been planning a trip to Nova Scotia. I first posted about it on 2/28 here and about getting our Passports on Have Passport Will Travel here.

Well I don't know who said "The well laid plans of mice and men ....." but it came into play today.

Some of you know the on again - off again route this proposed trip has taken, especially the past 10 days as we awaited the birth of one special little grand daughter of our friends. She was finally born at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 30th, and then it was just a matter of whether we were leaving today, July 2nd, or tomorrow, July 3rd. Then during the night Saturday our friend we were going with got really sick and finally this morning around 9:30 a.m. we called it off.

All day yesterday and until just a little while ago, Mickey and I checked airline costs, talked about just driving ourselves, etc. but finally decided "We said from the beginning of all our planning and talking starting in January that God would either open or close the door". We firmly believe God did close the door. Mickey and I learned a LONG time ago not to kick down doors that God closes!!!!!

Are we disappointed? - YES. Are we downtrodden? - NO. Do we have the peace of God about our decision? YES! The thing that disappointed me the most wasn't missing the Nova Scotia International Tattoo (even though we've had our tickets for months along with our hotel reservations in Halifax) or not getting to see The Ship Hector with her masts. The thing that did disappoint me, and even caused me to shed a few tears, is we had been planning to meet with a dear blog friend along the way. That really disappointed me. Can't tell you who------!!!!! I'm believing some way, some time, some how that meeting will take place. Why? Because it's the desire of my heart and "God gives us above and beyond what we can hope or ask".

So what did we do today........ Made alternate plans to take our grandchildren, Aric & Oksana, to Kansas City to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun for 4 days and 3 nights July 9-12. And we'll have one grand time doing that and we have the peace of God and joy in our hearts about it.

We've got a few shorter trips and things up our sleeves in the future we'll share later too. So instead of one Giant month long trip to and from Nova Scotia we'll do several little fun things within an easier driving distance.

And I won't missing my blogging time!!!!! he he

God answers prayers, sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes no. And sometimes (like now) the answer is wait a bit first. Good for you for making alternate plans. You may make that big Nova Scotia trip just never know.

Well Susan I was sorry to read of your cancelled plans as Iknow just how much you were looking forward to this. I do know though that you are at peace and in faith though.
I do hope that your friend recovers well. I'll comment again with details of the word God gave me when plans fellthrough when in the States one time. Need to check my blog first to see where it is. Love

I am so sorry your friend is ill, Susan, but just think, if you had gone a couple of days ago, you would have had to come back. I love your attitude to cancelled plans. It is an example to everyone! And I am certain you will all have a great time doing your alternate holiday things!

I'm sure you're blog friend is disappointed as well - someday maybe!

Your new plans sound wonderful! And the fact that you won't miss your blogging time is Grand!

I'm sorry to hear of the cancelled plans, too, esp. missing the visit with your blogging buddy!! Something similar happened to me with a trip to Germany I was supposed to take with my German class senior year... All the doors seemed to close one after the other, and I was bitterly disappointed. I would have done anything to still go on that trip, but my parents wisely told me something along the same lines as what you said, about not kicking down doors that God closes. Turns out, there ended up being a very good reason I shouldn't go on that trip, and I am still thankful that God was watching over me, to this day!!!

It's good to hear that you are making up for it with several smaller trips. I hope you have a wonderful time!!! =)

I'm sorry that your plans for your trip had to be canceled or postponed.
I'm also very sorry to hear of your friend's illness.
I hope you have a wonderful time enjoying your grands and shorter getaways this summer..

I am so sorry you are not going, but that just means God's got something so much better for you. It will blow your socks off. We love you and tell Mickey we said hi.

I'm sorry to hear about your canceled trip, but I like what you said about learning long ago not to knock down doors God closes. Amen sister. It's hard letting go, but you have done it beautifully, with grace and thankfulness. May you have a wonderful time with your family this vacation and I pray that if the Lord wills, He will open up the door for you to go to Nova Scotia one day soon.

Susan I am so sad for you, but like you I trust the Lord. I will admit that I will be missing all the updates and journaling of your trips, but I will be enlightened here.

As to missing out on visiting your blog friend...I am confident that the Lord will allow this meeting.

The Lord knows that our precious friends, even ones that we have yet to meet in person are vital to us.

I know personally that my dear blog friends have made such an impact on me. I thank the Lord that I have this opportunity to reach out and connect with Christians all over.

So enjoy the time you have on your reprogrammed staying at home and your mini getaway.

I absolutely love you and I know that the Lord will make all well!

I'm soooo sorry the plans got changed. That's a real bummer, but I know you'll have a great trip with the little one.

I'm sorry about your trip, Susan. I know God knows what He's doing, but it's still a disappointment.

In reading your alternate plans, you brought back one of my earliest childhood memories. I lived in Overland Park, Kansas until I was 5. I still remember when my parents surprised me with a trip to Worlds of Fun. I hadn't heard that name in YEARS, and if I had thought of it, I wouldn't have believed it still exsisted. Apparently it does. I don't remember a thing about the place, but I remember the name and running about 15 laps around my house in joy that we were going there! =o) Thanks for the memories.

I admire your attitude about this disappointment. God will bless your obedience.

Sounds more likely to be an unfortunate combination of unfortunate circumstances. Things do happen by chance, sometimes, you know.

pearlie said...

Mickey and I learned a LONG time ago not to kick down doors that God closes!!!!!

But how about closing doors that God has opened? :/

pearlie said...

I am sorry the door is closed for you on this but remember! God has his reasons :) :)

Tina said...

Dear seattle boy, those of us that believe in and know the Living God realize that nothing happens by chance, but is ordained by Him and used for our good. I pray you come to know and believe in Him also because He is real.

Penless Thoughts said...

Seattle Boy - Things may happen by chance in your life but not in mine. "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way" Psalms 37:23.

I'm sorry about your trip. It sounds like you have made lovely plans for with your grandchildren and I'm sure they are really happy about it. Have fun.

I'm sorry you had to change your plans, but feel you did the right thing in not kicking God's door down, as you said. :o) Blessings will abound in all of your shorter trips and activities! Have fun!!

Sorry that you had to cancel your travel plans to Nova Scotia this time, but going to Kansas City with your grandchildren also sounds like fun to me. Nova Scotia will still be there. Your grandkids will grow up. (See ... I do listen to you and Ginger. :-D )

How disappointing but I love your attitude about the whole ordeal.

What great grandparents you are...the grandkids are going to have a wonderful time!

Sorry to hear about your trip. I do believe to that when God closes one door he opens another. So glad you are at peace with all of this.
What a great way to look at it. I would be disappointed too.
I'm glad you are able to do other fun little trips. It sounds like you will have a wonderful time with the grandkids at World's of Fun.

Happy 4th of July to you and your family.

How great that you recognize and trust the hand of God in your life even when you wanted to go. You are an inspiration to me Susan. A great example you set for all. {{{{Susan}}}}

seattle boy said...

That's kind of neat, I like it! "I'm innocent, Your Honor, it was ordered by the Lord, and he was delighted! Have you not read the Psalms, Your Honor?"

Sort of convenient to be able to blame someone else.

Penless Thoughts said...

Seattle Boy - Oh I'm sorry you misunderstood me. I'm not blaming Him!!!!! I'm prasing His Holy Name for caring so much about me, and knowing all about me that He does protect and care for me. All this based on His WORD, which you know I believe and trust in fully.

Seattle Boy said...

Like he cared for and protected some 3000 folks and their families on 9/11/2001, eh? Yeh, I'm sure he ordered it and was delighted by it.
I bet those families are praising him.

I bet Allah is being praised even more.

weavermom said...

WELL, it made me cry that you don't get to go! Although I'm glad you won't have to leave blog-land for a bit. :)

Glad you feel good about it being God's leading, and here's hoping that the trip will work out some other time.

And the trip with grandkids sounds like FUN!

Penless Thoughts said...

Seattle Boy -

Oh you've hit the right topic with me now about Katrina!!!! God did not cause, and does not cause, things like that. God is a good God.

As to Katrina my daughter and grand daughter were in Katrina at Ocean Springs, Mississippi and lost everything they owned, except for the few items of clothing they had taken with them when they left.

Even though they lost things, they were only that THINGS but God protected their safety, their lives and blessed them abundantly through caring, God loving people who were there to help them.

What Satan meant for evil God actually turned into good in their lives and they are better off today than before Katrina. In fact my daughter is in the midst of buying a new home here in Tulsa. That's the God we serve.

seattle boy said...

Katrina was caused by convection over the ocean combined with the earth's rotation (Coriolis force). But I notice you divert the discussion away from 9/11. God is either all powerful or he isn't. He either orders things or he doesn't.

God is great? God ordered the destruction of the twin towers? Right? Muslims say that Allah ordered it.

Misfortune doesn’t seem to discriminate between those of faith and those of no faith, or between those of one faith or another.

Penless Thoughts said...

Seattle Boy -

My apology - I didn't divert to Katrina on purpose. I just read your comment so quickly and for some reason my mind went to our story and Katrina. You know I am an advanced age and not totally "sharp" all the time!!

I personally do not know anybody that was in 9/11 so I can't speak with much authority. I do know I've heard of many stories where Christians were saved from it (by for some reason not going to work - or actually surviving the blast itself, etc.) but I do not have any first hand on this so no authority as I said.

You and I have very different opinions about God. You obviously do not believe in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and I certainly do not believe in Allah so we are at an impass.

I do not see any purpose in carrying on any discussion between the two of us. I have tried to be polite to you. I have my opinions and I am very strong in my conviction. I have lived as a Christian for 51 years of my 69 year old life. I have witnessed too much personally to ever be talked out of my beliefs. I am as sure of my SPIRITUAL BIRTH as I am of my physical birth.

Since this is my blog and since no one forces you to come and read it and since you are almost guaranteed to be hearing about my God, my Jesus, my Lord, my Savior, my Faith every time you do come. I suggest you don't spend your time dropping by and reading, what you obviously do not believe or adhere to. I would appreciate the courtesty of no more comments that are going nowhere.

I did not delete your comment today. You are aware I have that ability to do so. I really do control this blog.

Penless Thoughts said...

I just did a review of my stats and it would appear "Seattle Boy" is not coming from Seattle at all but from the U.K.

annie said...

Wow, that was intense Susan. God is an awesome God and I will live praising Him and leave this earth praising Him. I will not and have never blamed the bad things on Him, yet lean on Him to give me strength and to provide healing.

Now, I'm sorry that your trip isn't working out the way you have planned. I read an article just this morning about two children who really wanted a boat. Their father told them to write a statement of faith, they did. A week later someone gave their family that boat they had prayed for. It was Kenneth Copeland's kids when they were children. The story was very inspirational. I don't do it justice...

We're drying out a bit today, how about you?

I love your Godly attitude in a "disappointing" time!! What a wise woman you are!! I too deeply believe "God gives us above and beyond what we can hope or ask", so hold on tight because God, too, may have something up His sleeve for you!! Ha ha
