SHOW & TELL #26 - Smiling Jesus

Show & Tell Friday is here once again. Go over to Kelli's and sign up on Mr. Linkey and then visit all the links and see the amazing things people Show.

This is my Smiling Jesus picture that hangs in our home.
I first saw this picture about seven years ago and just had to have one.

I loved this depiction of My Lord the minute I saw.
It is especially wonderful for me to post this today because I knew that Jesus threw back his head and smiled just like this upon our household this month
as our Prodigal returned.

All of us in this household are joining in on this smile and joy.

My prayer today is that Jesus is smiling as big on you and yours as He is on us.
OCTOBER, 2007 A MONTH TO REMEMBER
=============
On another note:
I've been blessed once again!!!! Heather's Brain notified me yesterday of the following:

WINNER
Congratulations to...(drum roll please)Susan at Penless Writer.

I won Heather's monthly candle give away, at Is That A Candle I Smell?, for October. YEAH!!! I love candles. Thank you Heather.

I loved what my lovely friend Karen, from New Zealand, said on my comments:

"Congratulations on your win! I saw that you were the winner and it felt so right, the flame is getting brighter in your life, oh so fitting. I got so excited for you!"

Yes, Karen, the flame is getting brighter and brighter in my life and family. I serve a wonderful, faithful, loving God. Bless His Holy Name: Father, Son & Holy Ghost.

A wonderful picture, a great change from all the 'mournful' depictions of Jesus you often see in old pictures. I always imagined He had a wonderful sense of humour and a great smile - I can imagine His great smile putting little children at their ease and laughing and joking with them.

I love this photo and Susan you are right. Praise God that He uses His timetable for your son, as if David did not wait until October, would his wife have received Jesus as her Saviour?

I believe that the Lord is awesome!Praise God for the Penless Writer Household, may we all be as faithful in our prayers!

Great picture. Somehow it seems strange to us that Jesus had all those wonderful human emotions. It's great to see him throwing his head back in a roaring laugh. Possibly laughing at a great joke!

Celestial Freak said...

That picture has a bit of a story to me too. My academic advisor/ Theology professor in college had that in his office. He often taught about the beauty in it in his classes. He thought that many theological artists paint Jesus in a somber mono-emotion light but that there is so much more depth in character of Jesus. He teaches about how Jesus would joke and laugh, and show rage and anger... the stories of Christ show a whole range of emotions if one looks closely.
Any time I see this picture, I think of that professor and his lessons on it. It's so true that there is more to Christ then just his sacrifice for us.
Sharing all this warms my soul. I'm so glad you shared your blessings too!

Susan,
I am crying and my heart is rejoicing for you. It's been about a week or a little more since I've been in blogland, and so I just read of your prodigal returning to our great and mighty and faithful God. Praise Him!!! You have been an inspiration to me since I started blogging...and the answer of your many years of prayers gives me great, great hope.
Blessings,
Michelle

This picture reminds me of a dear friend who has it on her wall. She has always treasured this picture of Jesus and it's easy to understand why. I can only imagine the joy He feels when His children praise Him...and I KNOW your family has brought great joy to heaven recently!!

Hugs!

Love the picture Susan!

I thought of you when we were in church on Sunday...the sermon was about people returning to the faith and how the Lord takes them right back in....I just instantly thought of you and your son and how happy you must be!

In 2007 there was an art exhibition here in Edinburgh and the theme was "Smiling Jesus". The owner of all the paintings of Jesus smiling, were not a Christian but he collected all paintings he could get hold of about Jesus smiling. My daughter and a friend also did a drawing of Jesus smiling standing above Edinburgh. I will try to get hold of it and post it.

Cjdusse said...

Sorry, I mean in 2006 there was an art exhibition on the Edinburgh Festival.

Susan, I usually enjoy your wonderful blogs. They are typically deeply spiritual and often times heartwarming. I even occasionally chuckle at the more light harded posts. However, I am somewhat concerned over this show and tell. Would Jesus really want to be shown in such a comical manner? He is Our Savior and Lord. A glorious one to be taken seriously. HE IS LORD. Not Paul Lynde. I mean no insult I am not here to judge, just comment. Perhaps next time you might not want to share things that depict Jesus as a clown.

Your sister in Christ,
Karen

I know Jesus laughs with us. The Bible says the Joy of the Lord is our strength! His joy is our strength.... He also says I rejoice over You with singing... how do we rejoice? By singing and dancing and laughing. We laugh when we receive good news and we are joyful. I absolutely love this picture that reminds me about Jesus laughing with pure joy - joy and laughter are emotions that are as much part of Him as any other emotion.
