SHOW & TELL #28 - Old lawnmower

Friday again!!! That means Show & Tell at Kelli's. Drop by here and sign up with Mr. Linky and then read and enjoy every ones items for this week.

My Show & Tell this week is this very old push lawnmower.
I found this about 15 years ago at a garage sale for $1.
The name on the handle reads
The Silent Yardman
The Yardman Co.
Jackson, Mich

I painted it to match our house trim and use it on the front porch as an ornament.

Addendum: Since posting this I've been ask in comments if I'd ever used it. The answer is NO. It was far to old and rusty to use and will barely turn.

Oh wow....this is how I LEARNED to DRIVE!! LOL---no, really, I remember having to do the lawn mowing chore in the summer ---and I used a push mower! [What a fantabulous idea to make it a porch adornment!! You get an A+ for the imagination and know how!!]

Have you ever tried it!! I have always wondered how hard it would be to push one of those---however if the blades were not sharp it would be really hard!

Great idea! There are still people who actually use these! Good for them - but no thanks!

Thanks for stopping by - you will be amazed at the "rest of the story" when you get to the later chapters of Kev's and my writings. God be praised!

That is my kind of decor...interesting, out of the ordinary.

My grandmother used to have one of those and I'd mow for her when we visited - fun memories for me this morning. And, makes such a cute decoration, too!

We have a big yard so we use a riding mower, but I have been looking for one of these for those small spots - but I can't find one anymore. I guess I need a dollar and the right yard sale!

Oh my gosh...So many memories of doing the grass at home with one of those things. Not pleasant I must tell you...lol

Looks wonderful just as an antique though.

Take care,
Connie

That made me smile to read. I grew up near Jackson, MI and still have lots of family there. May you meet the RISEN CHRIST today.

I remember those! They were hard to push too! So cute to display it on your porch! This is another thing we can give thanks for - power mowers!

Dad mowing the yard with it. In fact, I had to push it more times than I wanted. Your idea to use it as a yard ornament is great!

I think you're a delight to....and quite the preacher-lady!

Omigosh, Susan, that push lawn mower brings back so many memories for me. When I was a little girl, we had a camp and when we'd get there in the Spring to open up the camp for the Summer, dad would cut the grass using a push mower...I would always want to try it so he'd let me and then start laughing at me because I couldn't get the darn thing to move, especially with the grass being so long!! lol xox

I love love love this lawnmower! I'll bet you could get a lot more than a dollar for it somewhere. It's really neat, Susan. I haven't updated it in forever, but I have a bunch of old things that belonged to my Grandma on my other blog. They are things she gave me that I just treasure. This reminds me of those things.

Oh what a FUN old push mower. :) My Father-in-law has one like it that my son actually used on our "very thin" grass a few years ago. He huffed and puffed and told of how much WORK it was, LOL! Very neat, and you sure can't beat the price!!!

Thanks for stopping by by blog for show & tell, too.

Have a great day!

I enjoy these - I must join in one Friday! Not that I have many things to share. This reminded me of a friend I had when I was 9 or 10, he used to help my Dad on the Farm and we went to School together. He wante d to earn some money mowing lawns (with a mower like this). He knocked on a door, and the lady said - yes son that would be great, took him around the back and he saw a field. It was a long afternoon with a hand mower. Oh I never forgot that funny tale. He did it too and was proud of his efforts.

Love it!! I love lawn ornaments like this! My brother would be in heaven....he still uses a very old push mower to make his lawn look like golf grass! LOL Have a Fun Weekend!!

I love most anything old. Cute idea!

Oh, I have one of those too. Mine is not as old as yours. Sometimes when I am very upset or angry I go out and cut the back yard with it. Very theraputic!

Very neat. I haven't seen one of those in years. And The Silent Yardman is a wonderful name!

I've had to play catch up here on your blog. I'm glad you are well.

The lawnmower is adorable and what a clever idea, using it on your porch as part of the decor!

It was so good to visit with you here a bit.

Oh, I'm going shopping with Jungle Mom tomorrow, so be expecting a photo of our "find"!

I like that old lawn mower. I bet it does make a neat decorative item.

Have a great weekend.

When I was young, this was the first type of lawnmower I ever used. It was a great way to get lots of exercise, as there was 1/2 acre of lawn to mow. My brother and I took turns and by the time the entire lawn was mowed, it was time to take over. It took us about a week.

Thanks for sharing. I'd almost forgotten this memory.

Blessings,
Mary

How cute! I have a needlepoint picture of a little boy pushing one of those. Maybe I'll use it for a future "show and tell." :-)

We had one of those when I was a kid. I thought it was fun until I found out it was work. Our neighbor guy continued to use one even when everyone else went to a mower with a power. I always thought he was a bit strange...

Love the idea of setting it out for show. I'm not telling Dave or he will set his out for show and give up mowing...ahhh!

Michelle said...

That's a great decoration. I had to use one of those as a kid. We actually borrowed it for the first house we rented, but I could barely even get the blades to turn, so that lasted about ten whole minutes before hubby bought a "real" one.

Penless, very cleaver, I like that!

I would have bought that too for $1! Thats the least expensive cutest porch ornament I ever have seen.

What a great idea to paint it the color of your trim! I like that kind of lawn mower much better as a decorative item than a practical one! ;)

Kristie said...

What a neat idea to use as a decoration!!!!

I think that the mower is so cool! A conversation piece for just a dollar!!!

Susie said...

A great investment! I used to mow our lawn when we had a pushmower. It was great exercise! Now I can never get the gas mower to start by myself!

My grandparents use to have one of these I believe and actually a neighbor used one this past summer although it was a newer one. Its nice, I'll bet your home is beautiful. Hugs!

Hello, I have finally gotten back to my internet! YEAH!

Saija said...

it's fun to use older items like that as ornaments!

i had a red wagon (old rusty thing!) that leo painted for me, and i used it as a flower pot! i could easily move it when the lawn needed mowing ... :o)

Cheryl said...

I think that was a great idea. In the picture it looks so good on your porch. It is hard to believe that people actually used those to cut grass. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. God Bless!
