ICE STORM

I'm sure most of you have heard about our massive ice storm in Oklahoma since it's been on all the national news.
I thought I'd share a few pictures with you.
This is the only damage we had in the front yard. This pine tree literally snapped in half.
This is the house to our south.

This shows the two houses across the street from us. All three of these homes suffered much worse damage than we did. The house to the left literally had the drive way covered with branches and tree trunks but had already been cleared before I took the picture.

The next pictures are of our back yard.
The large green tree you see was also literally snapped in half. What this picture shows is the top half draped over the bottom half.
We have a Red Leaf Maple tree and a Tulip tree, that are our favorites, that suffered no damage. We are so grateful for that.

This shows the tree to the right with the upper portion and a lower section broken off.
The tree next to it shows various branches stripped off.
The picture right behind the 5th wheel shows the tree in our neighbors yard which was literally mangled.

Tulsa was hit really hard and there are 252,000 homes without power. Our little town of Coweta faired much better. We only lost power yesterday from 3 pm to 10:30 pm last night. We had already gone to bed and loaded the blankets on top of us.

The following pictures show us trying to stay warm and occupying ourselves.

We were in total darkness except for these two oil lanterns, one small flashlight, and some candles.
This shows David talking on his cell phone.

This is yours truly with about 3 layers of clothing on!!! Sitting in the very dimly lit room. I read some chapters out loud by flashlight to Mickey from "Glorious Appearing" by Tim LaHaye & Jerry B. Jenkins

Here is my Mickey trying to stay warm. I think he looks cute :o)

Here is David reading from "The Complete Essays of Mark Twain" by the light of the two oil lanterns.

Actually it was sort of fun, for the few hours we had to put up with it.

Our youngest son and two grandchildren ended up at our oldest daughters and husbands for the night. Our son-in-love had managed to buy a generator so they were able to have one small light, a small space heater and an electric blanket.

Our second daughter and oldest granddaughter and their room mates ended up all sleeping in their den near the fireplace. Jacque says her beautiful trees that she loved about the house she just bought are totally demolished.

Yesterday neither Mickey or David went to work, but today both have done so.

Marc also went to work and brought Oksana & Aric out here with me. They will probably be one of the ones without power for up to a week, since only his neighbor and his house lost power from broken power lines when the trees snapped. They will be spending the entire time here with us. It's fun having them.

Well, Oksana wants to get on the computer so I need to get off. A big thank you to Myrna from Cherish the Word who dropped me a note this morning to check on us. I really appreciated that!!

This is a show of the back yard early yesterday morning before the trees began splitting and falling.

This is a picture I took out our bedroom window yesterday morning showing the ice laden branches. Fortunately the tree in the front and the Red Japanese Maple near our bedroom window were not harmed.

Our server or blogger is hungry again to night, eating my comment like that!

I am grateful you all are safe and making the most of this situation.
Although I do realize it is a bad situation to me those trees with the white on it looks beautiful.

Looks like some storm! I remember one year, when we lived in SD, an ice storm ripped through the area and we were without power for three days! Thanks goodness for the wood stove to keep us warm and cook soup on!

Glad you are okay1 We still have quite a bit of ice around here too but nothing like in January in Nixa Mo when we were without power for a couple days.

As soon as David and I saw the news we wondered about you guys. I'm glad your power is back on. We have been down that road in the winter and it's awful. The ice is so beautiful, but the weight is so damaging.

Stay warm my friend. Our weather is awful, too, but we didn't get the heavy ice like those around us did.

Susan - I am glad you did not have more damage and that youhave power and heat, etc. My hubby's family is in Haskell and Ok. City and I know they were hit as well. BE SAFE, dear one.

Oh Susan...so glad to hear you are all OK! What an adventure!

I love how David is reading Mark Twain by oil lanterns...and that you read Glorious Appearing outloud!

There is something about the power going out that brings out those old-fashioned things like reading outloud...
But so glad you have heat now! Stay warm!

So glad you are all okay and your damage was minimal. I was wondering how you were doing!

Oh Susan I am so glad that you are all ok. I have worried about all in Oklahoma and have been following closely.

I heard the news and wondered if it was affecting you at all....so glad to hear that you have your power and are all safe and warm!

We had an ice storm here a few years ago and it was miserable....lots of people without power for days...some for weeks! We were lucky...it was only a day and a half for us.

Sure makes you appreciate electricity a little more and respect good old Mother Nature!

I had heard about the ice storm and was praying for those especially that I know that live In Oklahoma. We have friends there also. I am glad you all are alright. I hope you don't have to go very long without the things you need for light and warmth. Take care my friend, connie from Texas

The trees out the bedroom window look beautiful. I'm sorry to read that you had damage in this storm. Glad yu are all ok though.
I have never quite understood IS icestorms and how they happen. The trees look like ours in the frost but more dramatic but we get frost only when it is dry and cold.

I must live under a rock. I didn't hear about the ice storm in Oklahoma. Sheesh! It looks really bad. I hope you are warm now.

We are to get an ice storm tomorrow morning. YIKES! It is coming this way.

To me ice storms are beautiful, but I know they can be dangerous, and of course inconvenient! Glad you made the best of it, and even enjoyed it!

We don't have ice storms in FL, but I remember them when I lived in Alabama.

My Mom lives in Wichita and was sharing with me the ice she had. She is a chaplain at the hospital there and there were a lot of traffic accidents as well.

Praise God you had little damage.
So glad you could attempt to stay warm! I know how that is. I spent four days alone with no heat, phone, electricity... I praised God for our wood fireplace downstairs!

Hugs!!

SO good to hear that you are OK and you were spared the brutal damage some have had.

My son is going to school to be a line man so I have been thinking of him next year he will be heading to places like OK to fix those powerlines!!! One of his instructors looked into the class heading there this year but it didn't work out. He said he would have loved to go help!!

I often miss the news, so I didn't know it was that bad!

I remember a storm like that years ago when we lived in Missouri. We lost our power and hauled the babies into the living room where we all slept together on the mattress from our bed covered with every blanket we owned. We couldn't leave to go somewhere warmer because our only vehicle was a rearwheel drive Mustang.

Ah, memories!

Glad you guys came out of it alright!

Glad you survived! I'm sorry you had such a bad storm hit your area but I really enjoyed looking at the pictures. Those trees were just covered! Take care and stay warm. God Bless!

I am leaving for my 3 week holidays from the 18th (computer free!) so I wanted to wish you and your family a blessed Christmas. I know you have so much to be thankful for and to rejoice over. May it continue. We have some kites for the children to play with for the holidays and I will think of you all, when I see those kites. My son is watching the Postman Pat DVD at the moment and enjoying it all over again.

Hoping that the ice storm is abating for you all.

Much love, Karen

Our electricity finally came up today! We were on day seven without power!!! YIKES.
We have so many damaged trees and fences.... it took out the trampoline too. It looks like a tornado went through our property.
Glad you guys are ok! Matt's mom invited us to tulsa for the weekend since we were without power, I told matt it sounded good because I could meet "susan!"

You came immediately to my mind when I heard of the storms. I am glad you are ok. We go without power too, during hurricanes. But we have no trouble keeping warm :)

Stay safe and healthy. And Merry Christmas!!

I just stopped in to say I hope you all are doing OK...I saw your comment at Becky's so was glad to see you're at least on-line so that was good news! Blessings!

That's one thing that Oklahoma seems to do well - ice storms! My brother was fortunate to only lose power for 24 hours, but many still don't have it in the OKC area.

Sad loss of beautiful trees!
