SHOW & TELL '08 #8 - Fruit bowl
Friday is Show & Tell...take that picture(s), write your post, go here and put your name on Mr. Linky and then enjoy reading and viewing the wonderful Show & Tell items of others.
I purchased this bowl for my mother in 1977. Isn't it beautiful. I loved the varigated coloring of the glass.
This fruit is 52 years old. It was purchase for me in 1956 when I was 19 years old. I had just moved into my first home and my mother and I went to a lumber store and saw this fruit. I really liked it and she bought it for me for my new home. I had a bunch of red/purple grapes too but somewhere along the years they have disappeared. When my children were little one of them stuck a Chiquita Banana sticker on the banana. It was long ago removed!!!
These grapes belonged to my Mother-In-Love. She had them hanging on an old horseshoe in her kitchen. I still have the horseshoe, too, but separated them!! Can't remember the year I got these but it's been many years ago.
These 3 little gords were brought to us by Mickey's brother, Bob, and his wife, Sally, in 1985 when they came to visit us from Virginia when we lived in Albuquerque. They had stopped by the road and found them. I loved them and have kept them ever since.
Here is the complete Fruit Bowl as it sits in my home. Made up of all these special pieces, from special people in our lives and with one of my little angels sitting on the edge.
Thanks for letting me once again share one of my cherished items of remembrances.

Oooh, I just love things that are special because they are attached to special people in our lives. They become more than just the thing itself.

What great memories you have...I have seen that type of bowl before...so purty!
got my S&T up too...:o)
Beautiful. Sometimes it is surprising, what kind of history an object has. I am increasingly surprised at what I have, and then wonder what I can do to pass it on to my children and g-children - both physical objects and knowledge and love.
Your fruit bowl is so pretty. I love that it is filled with memories of special times and people. Linda
THAT is some old fruit! Good thing it doesn't get moldy (tee-hee). I love the Chiquita sticker, now that's priceless!
I have some fake apples that I got at Sprawl-Mart. They were in last week's post where I had my kitchen cabinet clutter displayed. They look real, right down to a "soft spot"!

have a great weekend.
Wow, I'm always amazed at all the things you have collected over the years.
I just love hearing all the memories attached with your show and tell items. I am sure it feels good to have them written out as well!
Your vintage fruit looks like it is in good shape! The bowl is very beautiful!
I totally forgot S&T, so I'm just enjoying reading other's S&T!
Katherine
That makes such a sweet vignette, especially with the stories behind the pieces.
Susan, a very beautiful fruit bowl! I can't believe those fruits are 52 years old! Thanks for visitig my S&T post. The piece you asked about is deep blue and white (the white beline very small beads). It's not Indian as far as I know. It was my mother's. :)
That is so sweet to have all those items with such meaning behind them. I had a lot of grapes back in the 60s when they were so popular. I kept them for many years, but I don't have them now. I don't remember when I got rid of them. I'm amazed that I have so many things from my childhood. We moved a lot when I was growing up so I'm surprised that I still have them.
That is a wonderful share. We had a fruit bowl display when I was growing up, and I used the fruit while playing house all the time. Wonder what ever happened to it...hmm

What a beautiful bowl. I love the coloring too. The fruit brought back memories from my grandma's house and her plastic fruit. I remember sitting at her table fingering the fruit and talking to her while she made dinner. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Blessings,
~Martie

I love the orange color of your bowl. Orange is my favorite color. I even blogged about it recently:
http://anapronaday.blogspot.com/2008/02/these-are-few-of-my-favorite-things.html
I always liked plastic fruit... especially grapes! I can remember chewing on them... squish squish squish. I bet that is where you long lost grapes went!
Beautiful bowl.
I enjoyed your pictures Susan.
My Grandmother had that fruit! I loved it and played with it as a child and when, at the close of her life, she asked if I wanted it, I said YES! A lot of the pieces have gone by the wayside now as my children have also played with it but I still have the banana, the orange and a pear. I love the generational aspect of it. How special!
Hello Susan,
You bowl is wonderful. ANd the memoriesw that go with it. Thank you for having me in your thoughts and prayers through my hard times. I am only hoping things gst better from here.
Hi Susan,
I miss doing "ShowNTell" but time doesn't allow for that right now. Your mother's bowl is lovely and how wonderful that you have it filled with your fruit collection. It must be a precious reminder each time you see it.
xo
I had to laugh when you said you bought the first fruit at the lumber store. I guess that's how it lasted so long!
