SHOW & TELL '08 - #9 - H.E. Stand

Hard to believe 2 months of 2008 are already gone. Another week flown by and it's Friday and time to head to Kelli's for Show & Tell.

What I am showing today isn't very fancy but it is one of my treasures.

It is a very plain stand that was made for my father many years ago by one of his friends.

I'm not sure exactly when my father received this gift.

It's just something that was always in our home.

My fathers name was Henry Errett.....hence the H.E. are his initials carved in the front.

You can also see that all the edges are sort of chiseled out.

All this work and detail was done by hand and not with power equipment.

As a very young child I remember being confused by the HE thinking it stood for

"he" and not understanding about initials.

This little stand sits in my entry hall. During the 4 years Mickey and I traveled in our 5th wheel we even had it with us there!!!

You can see it holds a few books. The part behind the door has one shelf and we keep a few often needed household tools there: hammer, screw drivers, picture hooks, measuring tape, etc.

I acquired this little stand in 1971 after my fathers death and my mother had moved from New Mexico here to Oklahoma to be with us.

Thanks for letting me share a very precious item of mine. It is special because of the great love I had for my father and it was his.

That is a nice keepsake. I love having 'things' that remind me of my beloved friends and family, too.

Oh, Susan, I love that little stand! I think it IS fancy! Or maybe unique is a better name! How special that it was your Dad's and has his initials on it!

That is a wonderful keepsake. It is lovely in itself, but even more special because of whose it was and how it was made.

What a lovely piece from your dad. It's just the way most children think. I would have thought the same about the H.E.

Isn't it funny how when we are so little what we think--I bet you had a *A-HA* moment, when you realized those were intials...:)
I love the stand.

Very unusual. At first I was wondering if there was another side which said HER then I read the rest of the post.

I like the table. It reminds me of the table I posted a couple of weeks ago, not that they look anything alike, but my table was made by my Dad's cousin years and years ago.

I would say you table and mine are both nice keepsakes to remind us of our Dad's.

What a wonderful treasure.
Your dad must have cherished it too since a friend made it for him.
And what a great idea to have a shelf for books at the side.
I'm glad you posted it.

I love it when there is a story behind an item that makes it so much personal and that is what makes it such a treasure! Awesome!

Now that is indeed special. Anything we have that reminds us of departed loved ones is precious. And to think how it's still being so useful to your family.

Hey Lady,

Just stopping by to say hello, and tell you I answered your question on my blog today. If you have any other questions, please ask! Granted my answers won't be as profound as yours were, but I'll try!!
