SHOW & TELL #27 - We're On A Roll

Friday and Show & Tell time once again at Kelli's. Go here and check it all out if you're not familiar with it and then join in on all the fun.

Thursday, after cleaning our son's house, and not time to pick up the kids from school, Mickey & I hit a couple of thrift stores looking for a hot plate and a cheap pan.

We need these two items to melt our honeycomb into wax. I am going to give making candles a go!!!! We hit two very large thrift outlets and there was not a thing.

Heading back to pick up the kids I remembered another thrift store and we had enough time so decided to go ahead and stop. BINGO!!!! One of the things we needed and more!!!

We needed a large pot to melt the honeycomb. I have very good stainless steel cookware that we bought years ago and I did not want to use it for this. We did not want to have to just buy another pan and pay a lot for it either.

Just look at this gym I found for $9.98, $10.83 with tax.

A 3 piece, antique, white porcelain steamer!!!

A view with the inner steamer out.

I just love this!!

Then I found these 40 coffee cups @ 45 cents each. To begin, I think I'll just make the candles in these. It will be easier than buying molds and then removing them from the molds. I will be a novice at this candle making. $4.50 for these, $4.88 with tax.

As you know, we've been picking Aric up from school every Wednesday for him to go to Royal Rangers at Church . He then spends the night and we drive him into Tulsa for school the next morning. They play a lot of games with a soccer ball and Mickey had mentioned he wanted to buy Aric a soccer ball to leave here at our house so Mickey could work with him on kicking it.

Mickey found this!!!! $1.98, $2.15 with tax.

Aric was thrilled to dead. He said, "Well thank you, grandpa. That was so kind of you." He is such a sweet, gentle, appreciative boy, AND I'm not just saying that because he's our grandson :o) !!!!!

So we got ALL these for $17.86. YEAH!!!!! I may even convert Mickey into being more willing to garage sale and thrift shop!!!!!

Really good deals 2 weeks in a row.

You are on a roll - way to go!

I really like that steamer! And the candles will look so neat in mugs. My sister in law once bought a candle in a mug that matched my mother in law's pfaltz.graf pattern. She likes having it sit on her counter! I think that is a great way to use the mugs! :)

How great to have all these for so little cost. And good luck with making them! Super steamer too. You did good.

I think I've told you I love how his name is spelled. Our son is Erik...and I thought that was different, but your "Aric" is way cool.

You got a terrific buy with that pot. It is a beauty - and the cups will be perfect for candles. They are so pretty. I had never thought of putting candles in cups or mugs. Great job!

I'm sure your grandson was pleased to get the soccer ball. It's always fun to get a surprise from Grandpa and Grandma.

Thanks for stopping by my blog for a visit. I celebrate your thrifty shopping prowess with you. I always look for things I need in second hand shops, too. Most of my treasures have been owned by someone else before me. Have a great evening.,

Great finds & great prices! That's a great idea to buy the coffee mugs as candle holders. At first, I thought, "Why would Susan want 40 mugs?" You are so clever! And then to find the soccer ball! Sounds like Aric was thrilled!

Thanks for sharing!

Great bargains and what a good idea to search out craft supplies at thrift stores! I never thought about looking for a pan to melt wax or mugs to use as molds there. There must be dozens of other things you can pick up as well - I'm thinking white plates to paint, or to use to hold dabs of paint, and odd jars to hold homemade bath salts...the possibilities are endless!

Thanks for sharing.

sales are so much fun, aren't they?

What amazing finds! That pot looks like it is in pristine condition. My dad makes candles and enjoys it to much - since he and I are allergic to scents, he makes ones that we can live with!

Come on over and see the before/after (so far) pix!

Aren't you going to eat the honeycomb - it's delicious.

Used to make lots of candles years ago but gave away all my equipment when I did not have the time for it. Did not use fresh beeswax though, it was parafin wax. Beeswax m uchhealthier.
