BILLY GRAHAM'S PRAYER FOR OUR NATION

THIS MAN SURE HAS A GOOD VIEW OF WHAT'S HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY!
'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; clease us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!'

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, 'The Rest of the Story', and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "One nation under God.'

Boy it is so true that we call good evil and evil good in our country today. Billy Graham - what a great man of God. My Hubby just got through reading the book called Billy about his early life. He's doing book reviews now and posted a review of this book on his blog yesterday. You might be interested in reading it. The link is http://clifditmoreblog.blogspot.com/

I have seen this wonderful prayer before but it is always a joy to read it again and say "Amen." Thanks for dropping by my blog. I have just finished looking over yours. My, what a splendid life you and your husband have lived and are living. My wife and I have also been married over fifty years. I was born in Fletcher, Oklahoma and grew up in Lawton. I lived there until I went to school in Abilene, Texas. You have a great blog. I love your ideas on organization. Hopefully you will drop by my wife's Spiritual Sundays blog and even write something for everybody to benefit from.

RYC: Thank you for your comment. I tried to post another comment prior to this one but it didn't go through. Also, I didn't know you could freeze Sweet Potatoes. I make mine in a crock pot with orange juice (unsweetened) and cinnamon. I feel so bad because I brought home almost a full pot (long story) and threw them out because I didn't know you could freeze them. I won't make that mistake again. Your post helped me. Thanks!

Yes - so true!
We are in the 12th book of IISamuel this month in Sunday School...studying today about David, Absolom & Amnon...this prompted our discussion about our current leaders. I have to really take a deep breath and all my faith into this roller coaster ride I think our country is in for. Billy Graham is such a wise man and wonderful leader.

Love reading about Billy Graham and seeing his old TV shows (crusades). He also said that God taught him how to die, he was ready, but growing old was hard (or something similar). It is so hard to see our great leaders grow old.

Good prayer, but Billy Graham never wrote it or prayed it.

This prayer burst into the public consciousness back in January of 1996, when the Rev. Joe Wright, senior pastor of the 2,500-member Central Christian Church in Wichita, was invited to deliver the opening prayer at a session of the Kansas House of Representatives. On that occasion he offered the following "Prayer of Repentance" (which was not entirely of his own crafting but rather was a version of a prayer written in 1995 by Bob Russell, who had offered it at the Kentucky Governor's Prayer Breakfast in Frankfort):
