THE SECRET

I received this in an e-mail recently. It has been around before but I thought it would be a perfect message for us to meditate on this Sabbath morning.

THE SECRET

One day one friend asked another,
'How is it that you are always so happy?
You have so much energy,
and you never seem to get down.

'With her eyes smiling, she said
'I know the Secret!'
'What secret is that?'
To which she replied,
'I'll tell you all about it,
but you have to promise
to share the Secret with other.'

The Secret is this:
'I have learned there is little I can do in my
life that will make me truly happy.
I must depend on God to make me happy
and to meet my needs.
When a need arises in my life,
I have to trust God to supply
according to HIS riches.
I have learned most of the time,
I don't need half of what I think I do.
He has never let me down.
Since I learned that 'Secret',
I am happy.'

The questioner's first thought was,
'That's too simple!'
But upon reflecting over her own life
she recalled how she thought a bigger house
would make her happy, but it didn't!
She thought a better paying job would make her happy,
but it hadn't.
When did she realize her greatest happiness?
Sitting on the floor with her grandchildren,
playing games, eating pizza or
reading a story, a simple gift from God.

Now you know it too!
We can't depend on people to make us happy.
Only GOD in His infinite wisdom can do that.
Trust HIM!
And now I pass the Secret on to you!
So once you get it, what will you do?

YOU have to tell someone the Secret, too!
That GOD in His wisdom will take care of YOU!
But it's not really a secret...
We just have to believe it and do it...
Really trust God!

oh, how true this is. and it's funny... even though we "know" the secret, we so often forget it or figure there has to be more. it's pretty simple and very powerful.

Hi Susan, Great post! I haven't heard this poem before. But I have learned that "more" does not make you happy, but can often be a burden and cause you to miss the true "secret" expressed here! Thanks for the reminder.

Kevin has a friend that her husband was layed off last week. (effects of the auto industry.) She is a Christian, but is having a really hard time with this, and is causing doubt of everything she has known and believed in. I would love to share this poem with her.

Great idea to cook all of your sweet potatoes at one time and freeze them! The children sold them at school as a fundraiser. I am going to go ahead and cook mine too!

I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving! You are a true blessing to me! ~hugs, Rhonda :)

Great post! WE can't depend on people for our happiness because they can be taken out of our lives in a heart beat. The Lord is the one to sustain.
Thanks for sharing the prayer in a past post. It's powerful and so true.
How's your hubby?

I can't understand why that is supposed to be a gift from God. Didn't she just decide to do it herself?

I was just praying something similar with my son this evening. As a young boy it's often hard for him when things don't go his way, and so in prayer I reminded us both that our joy is not when things do or do not go our way, but our joy and gain is in knowing Jesus, and knowing that we are His. We miss these simple yet basic truths so many times. Thank you for the post!

We need to all be reminded of this secret from time to time!

And I loved the prayer from Billy Graham in the post below! Wow...
