BEE HIVE - Supers

I posted this picture last week showing Mickey working on his 2 new Super's to add to the 2 Bee Hives he has. I am showing just one again to show the process.

Here is one of the finished supers. Mickey built two of the boxes, that look like drawers, first. Then he gave them each 2 coats of white paint. Next he assembled the 8 frames that go into each super. After the frames are assembled then he adds a sheet of wax foundation which is the foundation for the cells which the bees will "build out" and fill with honey. Then the finished Super, as you see in the last picture, goes on top of the hive.

I have posted the Pineapple Banana Nut bread recipe I baked the other day at Hands & Hearts.....for HIM frugal blog. Hope you'll come by and have a look. It really is a moist, yummy recipe.

It looks like building one of these is quite a bit of work! Worth it in the end though!

That is so cool and I LOVE the honey you gave me!

These pics look soooo familiar, as we just gave up our beekeeping business in 2001, lots of great memories though. 1000 hives just became too much work for one man ( and his help-meet wife)

It's a good thing Mickey knows how to build them himself, I can well imagine how expensive they'd be having to buy them! He really does beautiful work and no doubt the bees will be happy with his handiwork as well:-) It must be so fascinating to harvest your own honey!! xoxo

Mickey is certainly making a wonderful job of his Bee keeping.

Wish him a belated Happy Birthday for me too.

That is a vey familiar sight in our garage. My husband spends hours scraping, building, stapling, painting, etc. I am amazed at how much time it takes to do it all. He is a hobbiest beekeeper with roughly 25 hives. Our bees are not filling supers very quickly this year--lots of rain and cool temperatures. Whatever honey we get will still be yummy!

The bread looks and sounds delicious - I do the same with those "disposable" pans!

I just showed these pictures to Bethany as she has an interest in keeping bees-unfortunately, I do not have that desire, so it probably won't be happening here anyway. : ) That's really fascinating, and of course Mickey is an obvious expert in constructing the supers (a term which I had not heard before.)

That sure does sound like a lot of work but well worth it in the end.
Our neighbors when I was a mere child had them and he kept us in honey all winter loved it.
Thanks for sharing
God bless

I posted about your kind comment concerning my mom. Thanks sweetie, it meant so much to me. She is an an awesome lady who just keeps going forward! You just can't keep her down. The best part is, she gives God all the credit!

He sure does a nice job on those supers. Precision work.

I checked out the site with the bread recipe. It sure looks yummy, and that's a great buy on bananas too.
