SPIRITUAL SUNDAY 2010 - #11 - A Christian - What would you do?

A big thank you to Charlotte for this wonderful forum to share. Go here to read the many other posts.

A CHRISTIAN

Several years ago, a preached from out-of-state accepted a call to a church in Houston, Texas. Some weeks after he arrived, he had an occasion to ride the bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter to much change. As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, "You'd better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it." Then he thought, "Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet."

When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, and then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too much change...' The driver, with a smile, replies, "Aren't you the new preacher in town?" "Yes" he replied. "Well, I have been thinking a lot lately about going somewhere to worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. I'll see you at church on Sunday.

When the preacher stepped off the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, held on, and said, "Oh God, I almost sold your Son for a quarter."

Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read. This is a really scary example of how much people watch us as Christians, and will put us to the test! Always be on guard -- and remember -- You carry the name of Christ on your shoulders when you call yourself "Christian."

WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?

I want to ask the true Pray-er's who read this to join in standing and praying with us about our daughter and our son's family. Please go here, my previous post, for details.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for visiting my blog, I appreciate your comment. I will be praying for your son and daughter.

This post reminded me of a recent stay at a hotel. One evening I went to the front desk and asked the clerk to give me change for a twenty dollar bill. When she handed me my change, it included a twenty dollar bill. Before I had time to think, the words, "You've given me too much money" were spoken. I don't want to take advantage of someone's mistake.

Blessings and peace.

oh Amen. I went in once the next day to a coffee shop/gas station, didn't notice until I got home I had been given a free cup of coffee..... when I said I needed to pay for a cup from yesterday the young man literally did not know what to do, he was dumbfounded. NO big deal to me, just knew I had to do it, I love this story....we never know how important every detail is, not only to others but to us and to the name and glory of Christ. Thanks!

great story to do the right thing..Someone may be watching and judging our faith

It is what we do when no one is watching that shows our character. No one would have known that he had an extra quarter except him and God. It sounds like an easy lesson but too often we fall short.

God Bless You!

Susan, I'm a bit behind on my reading and just caught up here. I'm so sorry to hear of your daughter's health issues. I also know how your heart longs for Marc's new family to have peace and joy.

You and your family are in my prayers. We know that the Lord is for them in every way!

One never knows who, how, why and where we are being watched. Great.
With all the thoughts that were going through his mind it was the prompting of the Spirit in the end on which he acted even if he did not relise it.
