GREAT QUOTES

I, for one love great quotes. Here are 10 of them to share.

  • The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes.
  • Winston Churchill
  • In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing
  • Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt
  • I believe that unarmed truth & unconditional love will have the final word in reality.
  • Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Winning is not everything - but making the effort to win is.
  • Vince Lombardi
  • Those who do not know how to weep with their whole heart don't know how to laugh either.
  • Golda Meir
  • Tact: the ability to describe others as they see themselves.
  • Abraham (Abe) Lincoln
  • The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise then saved by criticism.
  • Norman Vincent Peale
  • When you're green, you're growing; & when you're ripe, you start to rot.
  • Ray Kroc (founder of McDonalds)
  • One truth stands firm. All that happens in world history rests on something spiritual. If the spiritual is strong, it creates world history. If it is weak, it suffers world history.
  • Albert Schweitzer
  • Who is rich? He that rejoices in his portion.
  • Benjamin Franklin

I'd be interested in which is your favorite and why.

My favorite it Albert Schweitzer's "One truth stands firm. All that happens in world history rests on somethings spiritual. If the spiritual is strong, it creates world history. If it is weak, it suffers world history."

I feel we are in a stage of such spiritual weakness that we are suffering world history.

Those who do not know how to weep with their whole heart don't know how to laugh either.
Golda Meir

I read this one twice and thought of myself. I cry easily, but I love a good laugh. Life is made up of both the joyful and the times of sorrow.

Weep with those who weep and rejoice with those rejoice.

Jumgle Mom - No, not yet.

I like: When you're green, you're growing; & when you're ripe, you start to rot.

The reason is that while you are seeing the need to keep growing spiritually, you never stop. Once you think you have arrived and are "ripe", you will rot...because we never SHOULD arrive, until God calls us home.

Thanks for sharing!!

Who is rich? He(or I assume she)that rejoices in his portion. That is my favorite. For tonight anyway :)

Thank you for your lovely encouragement to me. I so appreciate my new friends holding me up. A sister is a sister is a sister. And I have (apparently) many.

Ruth - My prayer is that I continue to grow until I draw my last breath. No, we never arrive and those who think they have are deceived.

Becky - I like that one too. I think it is so important. As Paul says: "Whatsoever state I'm in to be content". Oh, we are all sisters and brothers because we are the Family (and Body) of Christ.

In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing
Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt

I like this because: In life you have to make many decisions. Sometimes they may end up not being the right decisions.
At least you went forward and made a decision instead of doing nothing.

Lori B - You're so right. Even doing nothing has it's consequences so we need to do what we think best, even if it turns out not to be.

I have three favorites and I've been sitting here trying to narrow it down. They are Rossevelt, Churchill and Peale. I need Churchill's quote. Rossevelt's is encourageing in a time of indicision, and peale cuts to the heart, in a good way. Hmmm let me think....

I think I'm going with Churchill because I feel I have been suffering many fools lately, and I need to learn to do that better. And Lord knows I've caused others plenty of suffering, so I can lean on this as suffer or suffie. Great post!

I also like your favorite one, I was pondering between those two as my favorite.

I agree with Ginger:
"Those who do not know how to weep with their whole heart don't know how to laugh either. Golda Meir"
So many, around me anyway, want everything to be happy all the time. I think this is a great reminder that you don't really have one without the other. :)

I read a new quote recently, and I can't stop thinking about it. It's "I'm not afraid of failure. I'm afraid of succeeding at something that doesn't matter." Author unknown. I may write a post about this soon - it just speaks to me. :)

Kelli - Thanks for your comment and coming by to read.

Jennifer - Yes these famous quotes of various people say so much in a few words.

Danny - Thanks for stopping at my post and commenting. Welcome!

Trella - It is hard to pick. I, of course, like them all that's why I posted them!

Weaver Mom - Wow, but an insightful post. My daily prayer is that I live up to ALL that Christ purchased for me with His previous blood. Please post on that, it would touch us all I'm sure.

The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.

Face saving and self protection are what keep so many people trapped and unchanging. When we are forced to come face to face with our faults and foibles through some constructive criticism or Holy Spirit conviction, we have a choice - stay the same or choose to change - and when we choose to change, God then steps in and does the work of heart change in us.

It was hard to pick, but I'll go with Golda. I am always amazed that those who have been through the deepest waters, seem to also know the deepest joy - at least among those who know the Lord.

I love quotes. My favorite is, all though, I like many of them is by Norman Vincent Peale. "When you are green, you are growing; and when you are ripe, you start to rot." I am 64 in a few days and I hope I am still green because I want to keep growing until I take my last breath. connie from Texas

Winning is not everything - but making the effort to win is.
~Vince Lombardi

This is what I always tried to instill in my students when I taught. Teaching PE, we played a lot of games, but I tried to make them understand that their effort was the most important to me - that is where I saw their growth. I do the same now, with my children - and I need occasional reminders myself too!!!

Sometimes, you get more from what you put into it, then what you get out of it. ~Momma Roar :)

Difficult to come up with a favourite as they are all so good and true but think maybe Norman Vincent Peale's gets my vote.
