SHOW & TELL #3 - Tiny Childhood Bible

This picture was taken the same Christmas as the Bible below was given to me. I am the blond on the second row, behind the girl in the tam with leggings on. It's the same blue velvet dress with pink star buttons my mother made for me and I loved so.

It has 124 pages and contains the following information:
Chapter I - The First Christmas
Chapter II - Jesus is Baptised
Chapter III - Jesus Blesses the Children
Chapter IV - Jesus at Bethany
Chapter V - The Last Supper
Chapter VI - Jesus Prays

Chapter VII-Jesus is Arrester
Chapter VIII - Jesus before Pilot
Chapter IZ - Jesus is Crucified
Chapter X - Jesus Rises from the Dead
It has 6 full page pictures depicting Christ
3 - Morning Prayers
5 - Blessing for meals Prayerrs
6 - Day time Prayers
6 - Evening Prayers
The 10 Commandments

It is missing the black front cover.
The inscription reads:
"To Susan - from your teacher-
Mrs. Maxwell - Christmas - 1942"

The reason this is so special and important to me, besides being given to me 65 years ago, is because it is The Bible. It's wonderful to me to realize what an important part the beloved Word of God has been in my life. I love The Word of God.

That is a very special treasure you have. I remember being taught in Sunday School to memorize The Lord's Prayer. When I was teaching children's church I decided to see how many knew this prayer (I thought most would raise their hands). I was so saddened that none of them knew it. So we worked on this one. I hope they will never forget.

That picture of you is so cute.

No, Susan, I think it must have been blogger? I couldn't find anything that would have caused it on my posting bar. I don't have the "U" that Kelley suggested. I'm not sure what happened.
I love to see old bibles that are worn. They prove they were much loved and used! Sweet story and Show and Tell.

Your Bible reminds me of one of the oldest surviving artifact from my childhood-a statue of Jesus given to me when I was 7 or 8 years old (I'm now 51). It's worn and chipped, but to me it's a priceless treasure.

How wonderful that you still have the picture and the mini Bible. Even greater is that your parents took you to church so that you had an early start on learning to love The Word.

What a precious gift in that bible, and the fact that you still have it. Such a treasure.

Thanks for your sweet comment on my 100 things. I found that actually fun to write. I had been dreading it.

That IS cool. My FiL has a little book his teacher gave him when he was in the forties called "Ken on the Argentine Pampas". It is a blatantly evengelical boys adventure book.

Imagine, if a public school teacher today gave a child a Bible or devotional book, she'd be front-page news for all the trouble she caused!

Time machine, anyone?
