SHOW & TELL #14 - Evening Bag

HAPPY FRIDAY ONCE AGAIN AS WE PARTICIPATE IN SHOW & TELL. Drop over to Kelli's and find out all about it, write up your blog and item to show for this Friday, then go back to Kelli's and sign Mr. Linky and join the fun.

Here is my Show & Tell for this Friday.

This gold mesh evening bag.
This little bag is 55 years old.
It is what I carried my lipstick and hankie in (and always some money!) when I attended the Junior/Senior Prom's in High School.
Since I dated a boy 2 years & 2 grades ahead of me I attended my first Junior/Senior Prom when I was a Freshman and 14 years old.

Our Junior/Senior Prom's were always held at the Scottish Rite Temple, and not the high school gym. It was a very special and elegant night. A group of us would go out to dinner at a nice restaurant before the dance began and then all attend the Prom and dance away until midnight.
Fun times and happy memories!!!!

I can just imagine how elegant those proms must have been. Wish I could say the same for my own proms back in '94 and '95. I'd love to hear about your dress.

Very glitzy! At first I thought that you were going to say that you carried it through high school, then I read "prom". Whew! What an everyday statement that would have been!

Wow...can't believe you held on to it for so long. I love things like this that bring back old, but good memories. Thanks for sharing.

Hugs!

And nowadays, do you still take this pretty evening bag with you? ;-)))

Unfortunately, we do not have these proms here in Germany, it always must be a great and very elegant event!

That is one great evening bag! I know several young ladies that would love to carry that with them to their proms because they love the vintage look! blessings...

What a sweet bag!!! I have something similar that I carried to my prom..many many moons ago! Recently at my BIL's wedding one of the younger girls was carrying a similar bag and commented at it being "vintage"..sure beats being called OLD!!!

It looks like a very narrow opening at the top. I never went to proms, but I am glad you were able to save this for memories.

I have no understanding of 'prom', we d get 'exposure' from the movies, though.
So good that you could and did keep it for all this time, Susan, ma'am.

Wonderful that you still have that bag. It is very pretty, but even more important is that it is a link to earlier days and memories, thank you for sharing.

That is so pretty! I can't believe you still have that. It makes me wonder what I should have held on to that I didn't. Thanks for sharing!!

You have the most interesting stuff. My mom is very sentimental and keep all kinds of stuff. I am not sentimental with stuff, but I love other people's things.

I do have things that I've kept from my grandmother that I hold very dear to my heart.

Thanks for sharing your treasure.

Oh, this is Oroton, is it not? I had a purse like this about 40 years ago, and I'm sure I'd kept it. But when I searched for it a year or so ago, I couldn't find it, and was so cross with myself!

MightyMom said...

Susan,
Hope you didn't think me rude...I found it humorous as what is usually in my handbag is a big MESS!! :-)

OHHH Susan! I loved this post! I love history and keepsakes! What a special treasure to have kept!! Now where's the picture of YOU with the purse!?! :)

I just love your show and tell, Susan! I look forward to it every week.

Very cute purse. You could have also used it as a weapon to protect yourself lol

Hey, I noticed the side bar with names written with different things... Go to this site, http://www.imagechef.com/ its a blast and a half. You can make it look like your name is tatooed on someones body, or written in froth on a cup of coffee...and its soooo easy. Have fun!

Your little bag is wonderful, and in such pristine condition. I can see you have taken good care of it with affection. One of my favorite memories of proms is when my sister who is 10 years older went. My parents would take me and my other sister and park outside the school gym where the proms were held. We would watch all the girls go in with their pretty dresses on. I was so awed! Those memories are as precious to me as when I went to my own proms.
