EXAMINING OUR PARADIGMS & TRUTH

I recently blogged about the book, THE SHACK by William P. Young. I was just so moved by this book that I'm finding it hard to get it off my mind.

There is one paragraph in the book, that to me, the book would have been worth reading for just this one paragraph. So I am quoting that paragraph here. I trust you will REALLY ponder what this is saying, and not just read the words.

"Paradigms power perception & perceptions power emotions.

Most emotions are responses to perception - what you think is true about a given situation. If your perception is false, then your emotional response to it will be false too. So check your perceptions, and beyond that check the truthfulness of your paradigms - what you believe. Just because you believe something firmly doesn't make it true. Be willing to reexamine what you believe. The more you live in the truth, the more your emotions will help you see clearly. But even then, you don't want to trust them more than me."

This is of course God speaking to the character in the book. But it is what God is speaking to ALL of us. Base what you believe ONLY on THE WORD OF GOD, THE BIBLE, and what it says and nothing else. Reexamine what you believe. Is it in line with God's Word? If it isn't we are off base. The truth will set us free but it is only THE TRUTH that we KNOW that sets us free.

My prayer is that we may ALL be free in deed.

That has got to be a thought-provoking book. What a great excerpt!

I do hope that my children will learn the TRUTH from me and their emotions can be based in it.

I also can't get the book "The Shack" out of my mind! I keep on thinking about it and pondering the gems in the book. I want to read the book again and make notes. I just LOVE the way Mack as thought and shown how to walk in an intimate relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

I have read and heard such different opinions of this book - I need to check it out myself! As your paragraph said - we need to live in the truth. Very good words!

isn't it amazing how that book gets you to thinking in different ways or reflecting on the nature of God - and long after you're done reading it?
