ANOTHER BREAD RECIPE

Friday, while Mickey is busy harvesting honey I am in the kitchen making yet another GREAT bread recipe.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

"This honey wheat bread is proof that wonderful flavor, texture and aroma can be had if you just follow a straightforward game plan."

Ingredients:
3 cups warm water (110 degrees F; 45 degrees C)
2 (25 ounce) packages active dry yeast (I substituted 2 scant Tablespoons loose yeast that comes in the bottle)
1/3 Cup honey
5 Cups bread flour
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
1/3 Cup honey
1 Tablespoon salt
3 1/2 Cups whole wheat flour
2 Tablespoons butter, melted.

Directions:
1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and 1/3 cup honey. Add 5 cups white bread flour, and stir to combine. Let set for 30 minutes, or until big and bubbly.

2. Mix in 3 tablespoons melted butter, 1/3 cup honey, and salt. Stir in 2 cups whole wheat flour. Flour a flat surface and knead with whole wheat four until not real sticky - just pulling away from the counter, but still sticky to touch. This may take an additional 2 to 4 cups of whole wheat flour. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to coat the surface of the dough. Cover with a dishtowel. Let rise in a warm place until doubled.

3. Punch down, and divide into 3 loaves. Place in greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pans, and allow to rise until dough has topped the pans by one inch.

4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 25 to 30 minutes; do not overbake. Lightly brush the tops of loaves with 2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine when done to prevent crust from getting hard. Cool completely.

Here are the finished loaves.

As usual I made the 3 (with one smaller) so we could have the wee little loaf hot!!

No, we did NOT completely cool before we dove in and sampled it!!!
It is absolutely delicious!!!!!

Would someone please remind me that it is very difficult to try and be loosing weight at the same time I've gone on a bread baking frenzy!!!

Oh you're making me so hungry for hot homemade bread. Congrats on the weight loss. I'm afraid if I had a little lady bug it would be going in the wrong direction. It is so difficult. I used to walk but can't walk much now because my knee hurts too bad. We do go out to the mall and walk around a little bit, but I know that doesn't count. Too many stops to look at stuff.
Have a great week.

Your bread looks sooooo delicious!!

I love bread, esp. homemade bread, and I tell my husband I'm doing GREAT on my high-carb diet!! =) The low-carb diet I tried lasted about 6 hours, so I just try to cut calories in other areas. At least it's healthy whole grain bread, instead of brownies!! I think you are doing fantastic on your weight loss, by the way. =)

Mmmm...looks nummy! You're making me want to make bread again! But we're in the same boat - trying to eat healthier & Jeremy isn't eating many carbs these days, so bread-making may have to wait a little longer.

Thanks for tempting my tastebuds...I can smell the fresh, warm bread!

Oh, I love home made bread!

I actually got a bread machine a couple yrs ago but when something broke on it, I got out of the habit of using it even after hubby told me he fixed it. I'm really going to have to use it again this fall!

I also love making banana bread in the oven...yum!

Thanks for sharing the recipe!
