THIS & THAT & An Interview

Did you notice.....? After 2 years I decided to put up a newer picture of me on my "About Me". Actually, I choose this one of Mickey & I because he is such an important part of me. I've always said, "Our 2 good halves make 1 terrific whole". Besides, it's the Lord Himself who says "..and they shall be one flesh." Genesis 2:24b

Other news, our upright freezer "died" on Wednesday. At first, we thought "No way are we getting all this stuff into the 2 freezer sections of our 2 refrigerators."....but we did. Whee, what a relief. Of course they are so stuffed you have to move things to get something that isn't right in front, but that will correct itself as we use up items. It's really rather strange, because I've been thinking, as we've been endeavoring to become more frugal and thrifty than we've already been, about just how much electricity that older upright freezer was using. That took care of that problem for us. Mickey loaded it (yes, by himself and without telling me first, 'cuz he KNEW I'd fuss at him) into his pickup and hauled it to a salvage place in our town that takes that type stuff. Thank goodness we didn't have to just leave it sitting in the garage.

In the space that was freed up with the removal of the freezer Mickey made an area where I can begin potting and planting seed starters for the upcoming season of vegetables and flowers.
I know it's not very attractive but it will do the job for us. We are going to look into purchasing a grow light.

Speaking of that.....we went yesterday to Lo*we's and bought another 2x12x12 and he built this 12'x4' raised garden box, to go with the two 4'x4' boxes he built several years ago.

He still has to get some good soil to put into it. Our soil has way to much clay in it for gardening. We are hoping for a really good garden this year.

We've been having Spring like weather in the 50's & 60's the last few days. It even got to 71 yesterday, so it's easy to get eager and think about spring and the garden. Trust me though, we will still have some frost up into March.

We also purchased a new rain gauge. The one we had sitting on the patio table froze and cracked in our recent ice storm. As you can see, he hung this one on the lattice around part of the patio.

This is our friend, Jack, we speak of often. He came riding over on his motor cycle on Friday for a cup of coffee. Jack is the one Mickey has been going to Oklahoma City with to visit our friend Lee who hard open heart surgery and a really rough time of it. BUT, Lee is now home!!!! Thank God for answered prayer.
Last but certainly not least.....Diana of Sunshine On My Shoulder has answered my interview questions for her. Please go here to read them. She did a GREAT job. Thanks Diana for allowing me to interview you.

Ya, I can just see Mickey on the back of Jack's bike, hair blowing in the wind as they head to OKCity!
;)
Seriously, glad to here your friend is home!
I have been looking around online this morning about gardening and such, that and natural/organic farms in the Co. Springs area for when we get up there.
That's a great pic of you and Mickey!

I really like that new picture! I'm glad everything worked out with the freezer. It will be nice to have that area for planting. It's warm here too - the sun is shining and the snow is melting.

I love the new photo, too! Good job!

We are having gorgeous weather here, too - today was around 67 and sunny. The sky was a beautiful blue, too.

Looking forward to gardening this year again and trying some new things. I am hoping to get it in much earlier than last year. We'll see :)

Hi Susan,
Your new photo is great! Good for you getting all your freezer things moved. If our upright gave out, I'd never be able to fit its contents in our other small freezers.
Your garden plans sound wonderful. We're still praying for enough rain to allow us to have a garden this summer.
hugs))

I love how God orchestrates things so well - your freezer dying & having just the right amount of space to transfer things without losing anything.

Thinking of spring planting already?! I found the 1st crocus in my flower bed the other day, but it'll be awhile yet before I start thinking of planing. But I sure do enjoy it!

I love your new photo! And gardening is on my "list", too. We also have lots of clay here in GA and so it's a bit challenging...plus I can't grow a thing. But I keep hoping some day I'll have a big beautiful garden. Nothing like fresh, homegrown things on the table!

Susan,

We have some videos to watch on square foot gardening and this will be our first one this year when we give it a go. I definitely don't have a green thumb, but we're going to do our best! I might be asking you lots of questions! lol!

Blessings,
Tammy

I feel like that picture should be framed and sitting on my piano as you really are family to us. It's a wonderful picture of two people I love very much.

The new photo looks just like the two of you and warms my heart to see it. So glad you updated!

Your weather sounds great. We were in the 50's I believe today. It was such a treat! We cling to each nice day we get as we will see some snow yet in April.

I noticed the new photo as soon as clicked on your blog. I love it - it's a nice photo of you two.

Sorry about your freezer. I'm glad it all worked out.

SO sorry about your freezer but isn't it sweet of Mickey to fix you a potting area? He certainly is a blessing.

My daughter is hoping to make raised beds this year. Her property is clay and stays quite wet. She is taking classes at a community college though and it is taking a lot of her time and effort so it's hard to say if she will accomplish the garden.

As for me, I have a big back yard and usually have a garden there. My soil is sandy so it needs a lot of help.
Spring is just around the corner. Yipppeeeee! I can't wait to get my hands dirty!

Looks like you are going to get real busy soon with the gardening!

We have an old upright freezer from the 70s! Yes, and it still runs great, I'm so afraid it is going to die any day!

Hope the Sir did not have to travel on that mode of transport!

A lovely photo.
Hope the garden grew wonderfully and that all the plants will bear much fruit.

We 'lost' our washing machine this week.

What a blessing how the freezer/electricity worked out!

Good picture of you two.

Looks like you are all ready to garden. I'm going to try and do more in pots this year. I have such a shaded yard that I have to take advantage of the little are that gets the most sun. Its by our pool so I'll see how that goes.
Your potting table looks like it will be a great place to get those seedlings started. Can't wait to see picture of the garden later.

I like your new picture! You two look great.

We've been spring-like around here this past week, but we know there's no real spring until May, and sometimes June before it's safe to plant.

So glad to hear Lee's home!

I like the new picture of you and your husband. About the freezer, isn't is nice the way things have a way of working out when you don't see a way that they can. Life is like that for me.
Blessings,
Charlotte

We're planning to make some of those raised beds to try sq. ft. gardening this year. Matt has been studying all about it and can't wait for Spring.

I have posted Susan and there is also an award for you.
Have just checked out Diane's inspiring interview.

You have certainly set yourself a task with the vegies etc. We used tohave an allottment (a piece of rented land on which to grow produce). We loved if for a few years but it got too much in the end. Much better to have it on your doorstep.

71 degrees. Can hardly imagine this time of year.

It's nice to know what's going on in your life Susan! Love that new photo of you and Mickey in your About Me box! It was the first thing I noticed tonight.

Hi Susan! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I have seen your comments on several of the blogs I read. It is nice to finally meet you.

My dad built a garden box for my mom a few years ago, and it is so fun to watch the herbs, edible flowers and vegetables grow.

I like your new profile picture. I remember the old one from seeing your other comments.
