MICKEY'S GARDEN #1

In February I posted about this new above ground garden box that Mickey made this year to add to the two 4' x 4' boxes he had made several years ago.

New 12' x 4' box

Two weeks ago he hauled in 2 truck beds full of Sandy Loom or Top Soil

And 2 truck beds full of compost.

Last week he got this truck bed full of manure, from Tra*vis and San*dra, that he is mixing in and topping off with.
He will be planting onion sets, onion seeds, lettuce & spinach in the large box the lateral part of this month, according to the Farm*er's Al*manac. At the same time he will be planting potato's in an area behind the fence. Then he'll wait for warmer weather to plant the other items.
***********
For those of you who are wondering how Mickey is doing since his open heart surgery in October of last year.......hauling in these pickup loads of dirt tells it all. God has healed him and he's good as new. Praise to our wonderful GOD.

I am so happy to see how well Mickey has recovered, hooray!! =)

My kids always say Mickey reminds them of their grandpa (dad's dad) who is from Texas. I had to admit, the resemblance in appearance and mannerisms was definitely there. This is one more... he has grown his vegetables in raised beds like this for years and they do great!!

That's wonderful to see Mickey so active like that!
I so wish we were in a climate, and I had to room to have a little garden. 7000 ft isn't the best climate for growing. I do want to try a little salsa container garden. See if that works!

Great looking garden. Sounds like a good recipe for success with all the good stuff he has in there.

I made myself a little cinderblock raised garden. I'm going to see how it does. I found a sunny spot in my back yard to try out. My neighbors just took down a few trees in their back yard to put in a pool. I think it helped my backyard with more afternoon sun.

as i was reading your words and looking at the pictures, my thoughts went first to how mickey was feeling and thinking he must be feeling good if he was able to do that manual labor. yay! so glad to hear it.

the gardens look like a lot of fun. i can't wait to see pictures of healthy vegies as the months progress.

You've planted the bug in me! I'm going to have to think gardening soon, but I'll have to wait till we stop getting snow - we had more yesterday!

So glad to hear Mickey's doing so well. He must be so happy about it!

Awesome!

Now you have me craving fresh vegetables.

It will be awhile before our ground is ready to plant a garden. We are getting MORE snow today!

I've emailed but have had no reply. I sure hope everything is ok with her and her family. If you are aware of anything leave a comment on my blog then I can email you direct.

I'll say. That is quite a job for a 20 yr old, and he is moving with the best of them. Way to go Mickey!!

You are going to have some great produce. There is nothing like a cucumber still warm from the garden. Or as my son says, "This tomato was sleeping in the meadow just this morning." Yum!
