SPIRITUAL SUNDAY #7 - Rosh Hashanah - Feast of Trumpets

Spiritual Sundays is something I enjoy participating in. Please go here to read other Spiritual Sunday posts.

HAPPY JEWISH NEW YEAR

Saturday September 19th was Tishrei 1 of the Jewish New Year, which is also Rosh Hashanah or the Feast of Trumpets. It is also the year 5770 on the Jewish calendar.

"And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever." Exodus 12:14

"Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feast of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts."
Leviticus 23:2

"And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations." Numbers 10:8

I praise God for our Jewish roots and that we are grafted in by the blood of the lamb, JESUS!!!!!

We just finished celebrating Fall Festival in our little community of Coweta. Amid all the food and rides is a prayer tent sponsored by the various local churches of the Ministerial Alliance. One activity in the prayer tent Friday night was the blowing of the Shofar!!!! Prayer goes on in that Prayer Tent the entire time of the festival from Thursday 5 p.m. through Saturday 11 p.m. praying for our community and salvation of souls.

Some day we will hear THE trump of God and "For this we say unto you by the word of the LORD, THAT we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the LORD shall not prevent them which are asleep, For the LORD himself shall decend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the LORD in the air: and so shall we ever be with the LORD." 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

Hi Susan..I went to a Rosh hashanah service Friday night, where we celebrated this Jewish holiday. It was wonderful...the blowing of the shofar, the dancing, the singing in Hebrew, the opportunity to experience a moment of what I've studied in scripture. How I would love to see this teaching in my church. Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,
Mary

Hi Susan. I too am thankful for our Jewish roots. I love reading the Old Testament. And someday the trumpet will sound. I think we are getting pretty close to that day. Thank you for posting this today.

I wish our church would embrace our Jewish Roots! My husband and I celebrate Shabbot every Friday night together and recently our daughter joined us by Skype! Last Friday was real special being Rosh Hashanah! We've all been stuyding about it.

I wish I could have been in that prayer tent you described! Thanks for sharing.

So interesting! ...it is neat how much of the Old Testament is a foreshadowing or a picture that has deeper meaning.

We have nothing like that around here. Glad you had another blessing. Isn't it just grand that we've been grafted in?

You have been having a wonderful time. It's always such a blessing to have grandkids come and then the prayer tent and the shofar too. I can only imagine the goosebumps!

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I'm so glad you like my poem and picture.
About the geraniums, I don't have a basement to keep them so have to put them in a cool spare room. Anyplace where it's cool and doesn't freeze will work. I give them a little water throughout the winter but not a lot. It's natural for them to have a rest. Some of the foliage remains but not a lot of it. Some will turn brown and fall. In the spring when frost is done I set them out on the back deck, first in the shade a few weeks to climatize them, then in the sun. It's good to repot with good soil too. I give them a little fertilizer (miracle grow)throughout the blooming season and they do just fine for me.

I hope this works for you.

When I was in school we had the Jewish high holidays off from school. We were not Jewish but there were so many Jewish people in my town that we did not have school those days. It was not until I had my own children in a different town and state that I realized not every one had those days off. I remember being so surprised.
