FRIENDSHIP & BLESSINGS

This lovely note, and a box of chocolate awaited us on August 18th when we arrived!!

Our wonderful friends, John & Phyllis Rathbone, allowed Mickey & I, children Jacque & Marc, grandchildren Jessica & Aric, and Mickey's brother Jerry, from Tennessee, to spend wonderful days at their beautiful Lake Hudson home. (Son David from Florida, and granddaughter Oksana from Indiana were missing.  They had been scheduled to come but there was a change in plans and their visits will occur later.)
 Aric, Marc, Jacque
Mickey & Jerry
Jessica in the background dishing up the spaghetti.
This family loves to eat and there were many meals during these days around this lovely large table, with a lazy Susan in the center.

The lovely exterior.

 The large welcoming door.

 Right on beautiful Lake Hudson

Two views of the Living room

Told you this family likes to eat!
This time I fixed a spiral ham, along with fresh tomatoes and new potatoes from Mickey's garden.

One of the most unique features of this beautiful home is the LARGE panty with all these pull out drawers, with shelves above, on both sides of the room.  AND they were filled with all kinds of food and goodies!!

Jacque & Jessica spent lots of hours in, and by, the pool.

Jacque & Aric used the trampoline but I only got a picture of Jacque.

Father & Son in deep thought and discussion over something!! Not an unusual scene at all.

Mickey with that first cup of morning coffee!!!

The huge downstairs game room where Aric spent most of his time and the guys watched several football games on the large screen TV

I was always the first one up and absolutely LOVED the QUIET
and watching the sunrises out the living room window.
This is also where Mickey & I got to do our Daily Devotions, Bible Study and prayer each morning.

Gorgeous kitchen where I prepared all the meals.
Note the box of chocolates (I spoke about in the opening picture) on the bar that welcomed us!!

Mickey & Jerry spent a lot of time enjoying the lake from this one, of two, patio tables.
The guys watching TV in the upstairs TV room.
We all played a board game with Aric and then Marc & I joined Aric in a Wii game sort of like monopoly (which I was confused on the entire time, but it was still fun!)

Loved my LONG soaking bath each day in this lovely tub and master bath.  Of course everyone else opted for the huge showers.

Thanks again to our wonderful friends for being so very generous and blessing our family with this wonderful
week on Lake Hudson and their beautiful home and love.

Mickey & I and John & Phyllis's friendship and connection has been forged mostly in the prayers for each other and our families.
No wonder it is so strong!!
We love you John & Phyllis~~~~~

SONG - Find Us Faithful

This blog post is a little different as it is simply the words to a song.  BUT these words so speak my heart - especially where my Children and Grandchildren are concerned.  I felt I MUST share them.

FIND US FAITHFUL

We're pilgrims on this journey on a narrow road,
And those who've gone before us line the way.
Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary
Their lives a stirring testament to God's sustaining grace.

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
Let us run the race not only for the prize
But as those who've gone before us
Let us leave to those behind us
The heritage of faithfulness passed through Godly lives.

Oh, may all who come behind us Find us Faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave - Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey.

After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone
And our children sift through all we've left behind
May the clues that they discover and the memories they uncover
Become the light that leads them to the road we each must find.

Oh, may all who come behind us Find us Faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave - Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey.

For our children and our grandchildren.

Very Fun Time & Very Sobering Time celebrating LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Sharing and celebrating the Labor Day Weekend

We're ready and heading out......3 generations: father, son, grandson, and me, mother.

Marc had gotten us 4 tickets to attend the Oklahoma City Redhawks Baseball game against the Memphis Redbirds on Friday night.

We traveled to OKC and checked into our motel.  The game started at 7:05.
The entrance to the Bricktown Ball Park with downtown OKC in the background

Our great seats were right behind home plate

On the second tier of the 3 tier structure in what they call The Suites.
Not only were our seats perfect in the second row but all the food we wanted to eat was free.
We could either go into the area behind the glass doors to the buffet, order off the buffet and eat at tables in there....or order from the menu at our seats, as many times as we wanted, and the food was brought to us.
The temps that day had been in the high 90's and low 100's so we were afraid it might really be
hot, but because of the height of the 3 tier structure on the west it was very pleasant.   We opted to remain in our seats and order, and ORDER and ORDER.  The problem....
we ALL overate!!

After the game there was a terrific Firework display that was fantastic.  Oh...forgot to say....the OKC Redhawks lost to the Memphis Redbirds 5 to 0.  That part was not to good :o)

After our 2 block walk back to where the car was parked, Marc decided we needed to stop for ice cream before heading back to the motel so we located a Braums, even with our full stomachs.

We had discussed whether to just go over for the game and drive home late afterwards or stay overnight in a motel and do something special on Saturday.  We all opted to make our outing and fun last longer.

The next morning, after eating breakfast at Grandy's (where Marc was determined to have their chicken fried steak breakfast) even though we could have a free breakfast at the motel, we headed to downtown again.

This time to visit the the Oklahoma City National Memorial

A picture of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building after the bombing.

Marc and Aric entering the memorial after climbing up several flights of stairs from the street level,
Notice the 9:03 on the marble over the doorway - the exact timing of the bombing on April 19, 1995

The chairs that represent the 168 people who died.  Each chair represents one person, a big chair for an adult and a smaller chair for a child.  Each chair has the name of the person, and the bottom of each chair contains a lamp which is lite at night.  We have never seen it at night, but would love to and am sure that it is really impressive.

You can read below: about each of the 9 rows representing the people killed on the 9 floors of the building and 5 others at the West end of the chairs.  One of our dear church friends daughter was one of these 5 killed in another one of the buildings.
There were a total of 324 building within a 16 block radius that suffered damage and 86 cars were destroyed or burned.

The beautiful reflecting pool cover where NW 5th Street ran.

The friendly and informative Park Ranger talking to Mickey and answering questions.

Susan with the park ranger, with Aric looking on, beside the reflecting pool.

Susan, Marc and Aric  in a corner where a part of the wall remains.  The plaque to our left is engraved with the names of 600 people who survived the blast in the various 324 buildings within a 16 block radius.

Susan and Mickey at the exact location where the U-Haul Truck was parked and where the bomb exploded.

Mickey and; I had brought Oksana here once 10 years ago when she was only 10 years old.  Marc had visited here about 4 years ago.  Aric had never seen it.  It was a VERY moving experience to sense such a tranquil setting and spot where 168 people were killed and 680 injured.

We would highly recommend you visit this Memorial if you ever have an opportunity.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION - Marc's 44th

We celebrated this year at The Cheesecake Factory.  We chose it because it's one of Granddaughter Oksana favorites. Since we didn't get to be with her to celebrate her 18th Birthday in February we wanted to bring her here to celebrate with her dad.

Dinner's been eaten and the cheesecake desserts are served.  Marc got the candle and the wait-staff singing Happy Birthday.
 Mickey - Oksana - Jacque
 Marc - Susan - Mickey
 Jacque - Jessica - Benny
(sorry it's so dark you can hardly see them)

We had a delicious, lovely, leisurely 2 hour lunch.  They set us at a large round table in the side turret room with just a few other booths so it was quiet and very nice.

After desserts of cheesecake for all we came to the house for his gift presentation.

The entire family, including brother Dave who wasn't able to be here for the occasion, all went in together to purchase him an X-box 360, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 game, & headphones. Now Marc will be able to join in from his home to play golf with his brother & dad!!!
When he read his card from Mickey and I he said, "No tears Mom.  I didn't inherit the crying gene."

Thrilled to have ALL 3 of our grands present:
Grandson Aric - Granddaughter Oksana - Granddaughter Jessica

The 4 woman:  Jacque - Oksana - Jessica - Susan
The 4 men:  Marc - Benny - Mickey - Aric
Our complete family (minus Son David & Daughter Suzette):
Son Marc - Mother Susan
Grandson Aric - Granddaughter Oksana
Father Mickey - Daughter Jacque - Granddaughter Jessica

We finally got around to celebrating Marc's birthday on August 4th this year.  After 2 trips to VA-ER for Mickey, one via ambulance at 2 a.m. Thursday morning and again with me driving him last night at 7:30 p.m.,  We were happy he was well enough to make the party and is back to almost 100% after 4 days of a bad viral stomach infection.
