FAMILY "FUN"....

.....With my 3 guys. This Saturday was spent with Mickey & I taking the pick-up and heading to Owasso for Mickey to help will getting the new bed.  Marc was still at work but we went earlier than the 4 o'clock we were told to be there so Mickey & Aric could get the preliminary work done.

1st - remove existing twin bed from the guest bedroom to the garage for Marc to give away.

2nd - dismantle existing queen size bed from Marc's bedroom and move it to the guest room and reassemble it there.

By this time, Marc had come in and he and Mickey went to pick-up the new bed.

Just pictures of these three: Grandfather Mickey, Father Marc, Son & Grandson Aric putting together Marc's new queen box springs and mattress.

 Assembling the frame

 Showing out and acting silly

 Box spring set on frame

 Checking out the mattress

 First tester

Seeing how it feels.

THEN we headed out to El Chico Mexican Restaurant to meet Aric's Great Grandmother Beryl and Great Aunt Kathy who live in Texarkana and Tulsa family friend Barb for dinner.  Kathy was in town showing her wonderful hand made glass jewelry at the 3 day Affair of the Heart craft show.  Delightful meal, time and visit with these 3 special ladies in our lives.  Didn't take a picture one----bummer.

I am so grateful for our busy, involved, never a dull moment life and the joy of my 3 guys!!!

Very Fun Time & Very Sobering Time celebrating LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Sharing and celebrating the Labor Day Weekend

We're ready and heading out......3 generations: father, son, grandson, and me, mother.

Marc had gotten us 4 tickets to attend the Oklahoma City Redhawks Baseball game against the Memphis Redbirds on Friday night.

We traveled to OKC and checked into our motel.  The game started at 7:05.
The entrance to the Bricktown Ball Park with downtown OKC in the background

Our great seats were right behind home plate

On the second tier of the 3 tier structure in what they call The Suites.
Not only were our seats perfect in the second row but all the food we wanted to eat was free.
We could either go into the area behind the glass doors to the buffet, order off the buffet and eat at tables in there....or order from the menu at our seats, as many times as we wanted, and the food was brought to us.
The temps that day had been in the high 90's and low 100's so we were afraid it might really be
hot, but because of the height of the 3 tier structure on the west it was very pleasant.   We opted to remain in our seats and order, and ORDER and ORDER.  The problem....
we ALL overate!!

After the game there was a terrific Firework display that was fantastic.  Oh...forgot to say....the OKC Redhawks lost to the Memphis Redbirds 5 to 0.  That part was not to good :o)

After our 2 block walk back to where the car was parked, Marc decided we needed to stop for ice cream before heading back to the motel so we located a Braums, even with our full stomachs.

We had discussed whether to just go over for the game and drive home late afterwards or stay overnight in a motel and do something special on Saturday.  We all opted to make our outing and fun last longer.

The next morning, after eating breakfast at Grandy's (where Marc was determined to have their chicken fried steak breakfast) even though we could have a free breakfast at the motel, we headed to downtown again.

This time to visit the the Oklahoma City National Memorial

A picture of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building after the bombing.

Marc and Aric entering the memorial after climbing up several flights of stairs from the street level,
Notice the 9:03 on the marble over the doorway - the exact timing of the bombing on April 19, 1995

The chairs that represent the 168 people who died.  Each chair represents one person, a big chair for an adult and a smaller chair for a child.  Each chair has the name of the person, and the bottom of each chair contains a lamp which is lite at night.  We have never seen it at night, but would love to and am sure that it is really impressive.

You can read below: about each of the 9 rows representing the people killed on the 9 floors of the building and 5 others at the West end of the chairs.  One of our dear church friends daughter was one of these 5 killed in another one of the buildings.
There were a total of 324 building within a 16 block radius that suffered damage and 86 cars were destroyed or burned.

The beautiful reflecting pool cover where NW 5th Street ran.

The friendly and informative Park Ranger talking to Mickey and answering questions.

Susan with the park ranger, with Aric looking on, beside the reflecting pool.

Susan, Marc and Aric  in a corner where a part of the wall remains.  The plaque to our left is engraved with the names of 600 people who survived the blast in the various 324 buildings within a 16 block radius.

Susan and Mickey at the exact location where the U-Haul Truck was parked and where the bomb exploded.

Mickey and; I had brought Oksana here once 10 years ago when she was only 10 years old.  Marc had visited here about 4 years ago.  Aric had never seen it.  It was a VERY moving experience to sense such a tranquil setting and spot where 168 people were killed and 680 injured.

We would highly recommend you visit this Memorial if you ever have an opportunity.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION - Marc's 44th

We celebrated this year at The Cheesecake Factory.  We chose it because it's one of Granddaughter Oksana favorites. Since we didn't get to be with her to celebrate her 18th Birthday in February we wanted to bring her here to celebrate with her dad.

Dinner's been eaten and the cheesecake desserts are served.  Marc got the candle and the wait-staff singing Happy Birthday.
 Mickey - Oksana - Jacque
 Marc - Susan - Mickey
 Jacque - Jessica - Benny
(sorry it's so dark you can hardly see them)

We had a delicious, lovely, leisurely 2 hour lunch.  They set us at a large round table in the side turret room with just a few other booths so it was quiet and very nice.

After desserts of cheesecake for all we came to the house for his gift presentation.

The entire family, including brother Dave who wasn't able to be here for the occasion, all went in together to purchase him an X-box 360, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 game, & headphones. Now Marc will be able to join in from his home to play golf with his brother & dad!!!
When he read his card from Mickey and I he said, "No tears Mom.  I didn't inherit the crying gene."

Thrilled to have ALL 3 of our grands present:
Grandson Aric - Granddaughter Oksana - Granddaughter Jessica

The 4 woman:  Jacque - Oksana - Jessica - Susan
The 4 men:  Marc - Benny - Mickey - Aric
Our complete family (minus Son David & Daughter Suzette):
Son Marc - Mother Susan
Grandson Aric - Granddaughter Oksana
Father Mickey - Daughter Jacque - Granddaughter Jessica

We finally got around to celebrating Marc's birthday on August 4th this year.  After 2 trips to VA-ER for Mickey, one via ambulance at 2 a.m. Thursday morning and again with me driving him last night at 7:30 p.m.,  We were happy he was well enough to make the party and is back to almost 100% after 4 days of a bad viral stomach infection.

BELOVED SON - HAPPY 44TH MARC

Today, August 2nd, 2013, is our son Marc's 44th Birthday.

It was hard to not post a ton of pictures but I selected this one to highlight the close father/son relationship.
1983 Tulsa World article as Marc was the youngest person in Tulsa to ever receive his Hot Air Balloon License at age 14.  He was taught and instructed by his father, Mickey, in our Hot Air Balloon Suzy Blue.
This was taken the day of his test flight as they were making the preparations.
Blessed son - blessed father.

We will be having our usual family birthday celebration on Sunday, August 4th, this year.

We are so proud of this wonderful son The Lord has blessed this family with.

ANOTHER - Oh Happy Day

February 1st- Aric, Mickey and I had the joy of going with our son Marc to the auto dealership to pick up his 2011 Cadilac STS (Seville Touring Sedan) with 32,000 miles.

Marc had been researching and checking out this model of Cadilac for several years and knew exactly what he wanted: down to the silver exterior and all leather interior with every bell and whistle available. He located it in St. Louis and had it brought to Tulsa to drive and be certain it was what he wanted.
It was all he hoped it would be!!!

In these three pictures he is giving it the FINAL check-out with the salesman.

Marc, Aric and Mickey as Marc is ready to "take it home".  I actually got to ride in the front seat and Aric in the back, as Mickey had to drive the Taurus home. Then Aric and I went into the house (it was cold this day) and Marc took his dad on his first, of what will be MANY, rides.

Parked in front of his home.
Another goal achieved!!!!

ABOUT THE CADILLAC STS
With sharp lines and a commanding profile, the Cadillac STS (produced 2005-2011) was truly a driver’s luxury sedan. Engineered to accelerate, corner, brake and respond, the 2011 STS 5-passenger touring sedan carried a 302 HP direct-injection V6. The 6-speed automatic transmission allowed clutch-free manual shifting, and the available Performance Handling Package that included Brembo® race-inspired brakes added a new level of performance to this luxury sedan. Also available in Premium or Platinum Packages, the STS offered technologically advanced features like Side Blind Zone Alert, touch-screen navigation with voice recognition and heated/cooled front seats. The Cadillac STS–sophistication with attitude.

The 2005 Maroon Ford Taurus had been all fixed up, including new tires, and is going to his daughter Oksana, in Indiana, as her 18th birthday gift on the 23rd of this month.  He actually can't take it to her until July because she has to be a licensed driver for at least 6 months before she can have a car titled in her name in Indiana. That was a bummer Marc didn't find out about until last month but she KNOW'S ITS COMING !!!!!

Yes, it was yet another Oh Happy Day for this Joyce family on many fronts.

A 2 Z Challenge - A

A = AGAIN & AGE

Time for me to share a birthday celebration AGAIN.  This time it is Marc's who turned 43 years of AGE. His birthday was August 2nd but we waited to celebrate until Saturday evening the 4th.

He said if he got his "dreathers" he'd like to go to Texas Roadhouse for his dinner.
The birthday person always get's their "dreathers" so off we go.  Top picture, sister Jacque, son Aric, mom Susan, dad Mickey & honoree/birthday boy Marc.  Our family is a little "smaller" this time with Suzette gone, Oksana living in Indiana, Jessica off to school at OU and Benny in Alaska but we 5 are strong and thick!!

Since they bring out a saddle for the Birthday person, and they have to get in the saddle for the birthday cheer and hoopla Marc might have been sorry he got those "dreathers"!!!  At first reluctant and not wanting to, I think from the smile on his face he enjoyed it.

After our wonderful meal we all headed to his home in Owasso for the Birthday Cookie and his gift.  As we left the restaurant we drove through a really heavy downpour of much needed rain and that was such a blessing. We didn't get one single drop at our home in Coweta.

Dad giving his son his gift - when opened it was one of Mickey's old worn out shirts and old tie :o) but also a treasure map he had drawn.

Starting out from the entry hall, per the map
After several twists and turns - into the garage - where, after weaving through all the unpacked stuff in his 3rd car garage space, he was instructed to open the garage door

So he could see his gift - a painted lion for his yard.

Mickey & I had given Marc a plain, concrete lion 12 years ago, as a housewarming gift when he purchased his 2nd Tulsa home.  During the long 18 months of that empty house being on the market someone stole the lion.  Not knowing what to get him this year Jacque came up with the wonderful idea of seeing if we could find another lion.  I won't go through all that we went through finding this guy, but we finally did in Skiatook, a town about an hour away from Tulsa, and Mickey & I drove out there on August 1st and walked all over a HUGH area of statuary to find this beauty in 111 degree heat.  Talk about HOT and almost did us in ---- but when we saw this guy we knew he was Marc's

LEO the Lion
&
The Lion of Judah

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our youngest child.

Thanks to my friend, Retha who is participating in this challenge, for the reminder. I am going to once again participate in the A to Z challenge at Patty's.  I needed this to get back to posting daily.
