SHOW & TELL '08 - #5 - Tennessee License Plate

It's Friday and that means it's Show & Tell time at Kelli's. Go here to find out all about it, then post your Show & Tell. Be sure and go back and put your name on Mr. Linky and then enjoy all the wonderful items that bloggers share with each other.

My husband is not a collector of things. Being rasied in Tennesse he had expressed an interest in wishing he could find one of the old license plates that was shaped like the state of Tennessee. Several years ago we were visiting his sister in Nashville. His sister and brother-in-law were great antiquers and took us to an antique store. Low and behold Mickey spotted this Tennessee license plate hanging VERY high up on one of the walls. He got the shop keeper and asked for them to get it down for him.

They got it down and took it to the register to hold it for us while we continued to shop. The minute it was placed on the counter a man and woman came up and wanted to purchase it. He was so happy he had seen it before they did!!!!

His ideal would have been to get one dated 1932, his birth year, but that he could not do. He was delighted to have found this one. We were married in 1958 so this was 2 years prior to that. This license plate is now 52 years old and is proudly displayed on the wall in our office over his desk.

Thanks for stopping by and letting me show you this little treasure of my husbands.

Nice license plate! I am from Ohio, I remember seeing old ones on the wall of my grandmother's garage, and wondering why she kept them! Now I'd love to have one, myself.

You were really lucky to find one ! My father used to keep all licence plates he had over the years. They hang in his garage.

Thank you, Susan, for visiting me today and leaving a comment. About the lamps - did you notice that all three of these oil lamps have been converted to electric lamps. We use candles when the electric is out.

I enjoyed your show and tell, especially since it was centered around Tennessee. I am from Nashville. Actually I live in Goodlettsville, 12 miles north of Nashville. I'm happy for your husband that he found an old Tn. license plate. I haven't seen one like that in a long time, but I do remember those.
