BOOK REVIEW - The Shack

I have just finished reading
The Shack by William P. Young.

This is a book of fiction that I never would have picked up off the shelf of my local religious bookstore to read on my own. Neither the title or the cover picture would have appealed to me and I am not fond of religious fiction.

I bought it, and read it, based on 3 other bloggers who so highly recommended it.

I am so thankful I did.

This book S-T-R-E-A-C-H-E-D me beyond anything I have encountered in a long time. It took me out of my "comfort zone" as to my preconceived ideas about the Triune God, Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

I have already passed my copy on to a friend to read and recommended it to several others. I highly recommend it to you.

Just one more caveat, have a large box of tissues by your side.....you'll need them!
It is the type of book you can hardly put down, it grips you so. It is also a book you hate to see end!!!

How many of you have heard of the book or read it?

I think it is the first work of this author but I trust there will be more.

I am not much on christian fiction either, but have heard many things about this one. Hearing that you aren't much on the genre, but enjoyed it has me intrigued. Thanks Susan.

I have heard much about this book - all amazing reviews. I have yet to read it; I don't like mystery-type books, but I've been told the "it's okay" and to give it a try anyway. So, after I finish the "Seeing & Savoring Jesus Christ" book I want to give this one a try. Glad to hear you enjoyed this one!

Susan,

Thank you for the recommendation. I am often disappointed by the writers of Christian fiction. And I love a great recommendation. Thanks! Sorry I have not been by for awhile. FAmily has been in town, lots and lots of sewing for different folks, but I have missed stopping by and do hope you had a lovely Mother' Day!!

Hmmmm....you have now peaked my curiousity....might just have to find the time to read this one. I don't get much time to read these days.

Maybe I missed it but how did your knee surgery go?

The Shack is being promoted over here too. I have it on my Amazon list but have not bought it yet,
If you like this I think you will love 'The Divine Romance' by Gene Edwards if you have not already read it. Many say he is the modern day C.S.Lewis. I would certainly recommend it.

This book shows the simplicity of having a personal relationship with God. It is an absolute must read, especially for those who tire of and question the rules imposed upon us in different churches. Unfortunately, religion tends to get in the way of something that is so simple. Love. If you truly demonstrate love to all those who cross your path, how much better would this world be for it. Take care of the gifts God has blessed you with (the sun rising, children, the ability to help others,) and love others as God loves you. In doing this, we would naturally want to do justice, have mercy and walk humbly with God (biblical reference). This book is a gift that will challenge you.
