ENTITLEMENT

"I WANT"  "I NEED"  "I GOTTA HAVE"

In this age of entitlement(entitle: Webster'S-1)to give a title or name to -2)to give a right or claim to)we have added yet another layer to materialism.

No, I don't want to work for it.  I want "you" to provide it to me because I am ENTITLED.

I am so thankful that I was raised being taught:

"A penny saved is a penny earned"
"Watch the pennies and the $ will take care of themselves"
&
Pride in a job well done, for the pure joy of accomplishment.

Mickey & I raised our 4 children with these same values.  Sadly, we seem to have found ourselves in a society where about 50% of the population were not being taught these values. Add to this a generation that was, and is, being taught that there are no "absolutes", The Bible and The 10 Commandments are "obsolete", and we are watching as our entire nation is crumbling.

Add to this a large majority of professing Christians who's main focus in life it not winning the lost or showing the love & compassion that The Bible teaches but are busy as bee's
working night & day for the almighty Dollar
building up their IRA
&
 "KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES"

As we watch The Church lose it's effectiveness and our entire nation crumble even more.

Well, as for me & my house we will:
 serve The Lord
believe with all our heart & soul
enjoy each day The Lord gives us
&
someday hear:  Good & faithful servant

Entitlement????
I am not "entitled" to anything; but by the grace and mercy of God, and the sacrifice of The Son of God, JESUS the Christ, upon that cross I have been GIVEN everything.
&
HE gives me the best title in all the world & creation
A CHILD OF THE LIVING GOD

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light."  I Peter 2:9

"ME"

"Me is a most exacting personage, requiring the best seat and the highest place for itself, and feeling grievously wounded if its claim is not recognized.  Most of the quarrels among Christian workers arise from the clamoring of this gigantic Me.  How few of us understand the true secret of taking our seats in the lowest rooms."  ~~ Hannah Whitall Smith

In a world that screams from every side - me, myself, my four & no more & buy it NOW, pay later, no interest for 12 months, etc., etc., it is important to be reminded that

Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.
Matthew 11:29

For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
I John 4:20

Nothing sets a person so much out of the devil's reach as humility.
Jonathan Edwards

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners - of whom I am the worst.
I Timothy 1:15

Yes, Lord, let me get "me" out of front and center and truly make it all about THEE.

The Eye of the Lord - Part II

Sorry that the bottom of the post with this picture was too difficult to read.  Here is what it said:

The Truth
In doing research on this story, we found that there are numerous pictures of space objects that are
Nicknamed “The Eye of God.”

According to the Hubbel Telescope site, this particular picture is of the HELIX NEBULA, which is about 650 light years from earth.  It is said to be the nearest planetary nebulae to earth.

A planetary nebula is gas around what used to be a star much like our sun.

The photograph is not just from the Hubble telescope, but is a composite of date from the Hubble telescope and from Kitt Peak in Tucson, Arizona.

It’s still so beautiful and reminds
me:

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon
Them that fear him, upon them that hope
In his mercy;
Psalm 33:18

The eyes of the LORD are on the
Righteous and his ears are attentive to
Their cry;
Psalm 34:15

Just a reminder of how beautiful God’s
Creation is and that HIS eye is ever upon us.
That gives me great comfort.

Did You Know?

I received the following e-mail from my good friend Don and wanted to share it here on Penless Writer

DID YOU KNOW?

I.   As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S. Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and  each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view ... It is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments !

II.   As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom , the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.

III.   As you sit inside the courtroom, you can see the wall, right above where the Supreme Court Judges sit, a display of the Ten Commandments!

IV.   There are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and Monuments in Washington , D.C.

V,   James Madison , the fourth president, known as ' The Father of Our Constitution ' made the Following statement:   'We have staked the whole of all our political Institutions upon the capacity of mankind for Self-government , upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control  ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to The Ten Commandments of God.'

VI.   Every session of Congress begins with a prayer by a paid preacher, whose salary's been paid by taxpayers since 1777.

VII.   Fifty-two of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established Orthodox churches in the colonies..

VIII.  Thomas Jefferson worried that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of Interpreting the law would begin making law an oligarchy: the rule of few over many.  How then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220  years in this Country is now suddenly wrong and Unconstitutional?

Lets put it around the world and let the world see and remember what this great country was Built on The Holy Bible and belief in GOD!

I saw this on my blog friend, Mari's blog, Mari's Little Corner, and had to copy it here on Penless Writer.

HOW AWESOME IS THIS?!!!!!!

Named one of the best science images by the National Geographic News, Visualizing the Bible "... brings to light the interconnected nature of one of the world's most familiar books." The bar graph that runs along the bottom represents all of the chapters in the Bible. Books alternate in color between white and light gray. The length of each bar denotes the number of verses in the chapter. Each of the 63,779 cross references found in the Bible is depicted by a single arc - the color corresponds to the distance between the two chapters, creating a rainbow-like effect.
This print is a fine art giclee. It is printed on high-quality, premium lustre photo paper.

This chart was created by Chris Harrison, a Ph.D. student in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, in collaboration with Christoph Römhild, a Lutheran Pastor. Chris won the Honorable Mention in the NSF's Science & Engineering 2008 Visualization Challenge.

Earth Bound or Spirit Lead

I saw this statement the other day and it made me think!!!

We will not be earth-bound in our praying, walking or talking.

BUT we are!!!!  We are so accustomed to think of everything in terms of how we relate here on earth.  How we relate to each other.  How we relate to events.  How we relate to problems.  How we relate to joys.  How we relate to what we hear, see, feel, smell and taste - those 5 fleshly senses.

But I want to be governed by The Spirit of God .  Don't you?

Father, we will not be status quo, but respond to the deep call you put within us.

Help me to hear with Spiritual ears.
Help me to see with Spiritual eyes.
Help me to feel as the Spirit feels.
Help me to smell the sweet aroma of your Spirit.
Help me to taste and know that You are good.

You are looking for a great release of people to step into their place.

Lord, make Your voice loud and clear and help me to be lead by Your Spirit.

Spirit bound in my praying, walking and talking.

THIS IS MY PRAYER.

TRYING TO ANSWER "WHY?" and DEALING WITH PAIN

"We're not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be."  C.S. Lewis

I had copied this quote down some time ago (wish I had dated it!) and this morning as I was pasting another quote onto that page this JUMPED out at me.  Nor do I know how long ago C.S. Lewis penned those words.  What I do know: no words could, at the moment, better express my thoughts and feelings as I try and reconcile my strong faith and belief in my Triune God and His Written Word and the pain I am feeling with my precious Suzette being taken to Heaven at this time.

I KNOW that God's plans and purposes are perfect and that He desires nothing but good and the best for His beloved body, of which I am a part.  I also know, as one of the condolence cards I received so aptly said, that when I get to Heaven I will no longer ask "why" but say only two words, "of course".

I also KNOW that it is totally foolish to even ask "why" because that is the one question God never answers.  Even when Christ asked "why have you forsaken me" on that Cross.....no answer came from God.   Yet as human beings we always seem to not only ask "why" but believe somewhere, some place, some how we will get an answer!!

Yes, God's best for me at this time is undoubtedly THE most painful thing I've ever been called upon to go through, and yet I do and will trust.

How could I not when I serve such a God and have seen His hand, direction and work in my life these many long 73 years?

LAUS DEO - Do you know what it means?

LAUS DEO

One detail that is seldom mentioned is that in Washington, D.C. there can never be a building of greater height than the Washington Monument.

With all the uproar about removing the ten commandments, etc., this is worth a moment or two of your time.

On the aluminum cap, atop the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. are displayed two words: Laus Deo

No one can see these words. Most visitors to the monument are totally unaware they are there, and probably could care less.

Once you know Laus Deo's history, you will want to share this with everyone you know. These words have been there for many years; they are 555' 5.125" high, perched atop the monument, facing skyward to the Father of our nation, overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia, capital of the United States of America.

Laus Deo! Two seemingly insignificant, unnoticed words. Our of sight and, one might think, out of mind, but very meaningfully placed at the highest point over what is the most powerful city in the most successful nation in the world.

So, what do those two words, in Latin, composed of just four syllables and only seven letters, mean? Very simply, they say "Praise be to God?"

Through construction of this giant obelisk began in 1848, when James Polk was President of the United States, it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public. It took twenty-five years to finally cap the memorial with a tribute to the Father of our nation, Laus Deo "Praise be to God!"

From atop this magnificent granite and marble structure, visitors may take in the beautiful panoramic view of the city with it's division into four major segments. From that vantage point, one can also easily see the original plan of the designer, Pierre Charles I'Enfant....a perfect cross, with the White House to the north, Jefferson Memorial to the south, Capitol to the east, and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.

A cross? What about separation of church and state? Yes, a cross; separation of church and state was not, is not, in the Constitution. Praise be to God!

Within the monument itself are 898 steps and 50 landings. As one climbs the steps and pauses at the landings the memorial stones share a message.

On the 12th landing is a prayer by the City of Baltimore. On the 20th landing is a memorial presented by some Chinese Christians. On the 24th landing is a presentation made by Sunday School children from New York and Philadelphia quoting Proverbs 10:7, Luke 18:16 and Proverbs 22:6. Praise be to God!

When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848 deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society. Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, and the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique republic "One Nation, Under God."

Washington's prayer for America was: "Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in They holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large..And finally that Thou will most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

When one stops to observe the inscriptions found in public places all over our nations capitol, we will easily find the signature of God, as it is unmistakably inscribed everywhere you look.

You may forget the width and height of "Laus Deo", its location, or the architects but no one who reads this will be able to forget its meaning, or these words:

"Unless the Lord builds the house its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." Psalm 127:1

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." II Chronicles 7:14

Mickey & I have been blessed to visit D.C. and climb those 898 steps and view the cross outline. To see and read the depictions of Moses on, and in, The Supreme Count building. We have commented that to take "God" out of everything they would have to tear down D.C. because it is everywhere in those hallowed buildings.

We are once again humbled and praying. Please join us.

HE IS GOD

~ He Is God ~

He is the First and Last,
The Beginning and the End!
He is the keeper of Creation and the Creator of all!

He is the Architect of the universe and the Manager of all times
He always was, He always is, and He always wil be...
Unmoved, Unchanged, Undefeated, and never Undone!

He was bruised and brought healing!
He was pierced and eased pain!
He was persecuted and brought freedom!

He was dead and brought life!
He is risen and brings power!
He reigns and brings Peace!

The world can't understand Him,
The armies can't defeat Him,
The schools can't explain Him,
and The leaders can't ignore Him

Herod couldn't kill Him,
The Pharisees couldn't confuse Him,
and The people couldn't hold Him!

Nero couldn't crush Him,
Hitler couldn't silence Him,
The New Age can't replace Him,
and "Oprah" can't explain Him away!

He is Light, Love, Longevity, and Lord.
He is Goodness, Kindness, Gentleness, and God.
He is Holy, Righteous, Mighty, Powerful, and Pure.

His ways are right, His word is eternal.
His will is unchanging, and His mind is on me.
He is my Savior, He is my guide, and He is my peace!

He is my Joy, He is my comfort, He is my Lord, and He rules my life!
I serve Him because His bond is love,
His burden is light,
and His goal for me is abundant life.

I follow Him because He is the wisdom of the wise,
the power of the powerful,
the ancient of days,
the ruler of rulers,
the leader of leaders,
the overseer of the overcomers, and is to come.

And if that seems impressive to you, try this for size.
His goal is a relationship with ME!

He will never leave me, never forsake me,
never mislead me, never forget me,
never overlook me and never cancel my appointment in His appointment book.

When I fall, He lifts me up!
When I fail, He forgives!
When I am weak, He is strong!
When I am lost, He is the way!

When I am afraid, He is my courage!
When I stumble, He steadies me!
When I am hurt, He heals me!
When I am broken, He mends me!

When I am blind, He leads me!
When I am hungry, He feeds me!
When I face trials, He is with me!
When I face persecution, He shields me!

When I face problems, He comforts me!
When I face loss, He provides for me!
When I face Death, He carries me Home!

He is everything for everybody, everywhere, every time, and every way.

He is God, He is faithful.
I am His, and He is mine!

My Father in heaven can whip the father of this world,
So, if you're wondering why I feel so secure, understand this...
He said it and that settles it.
God is in control, I am on His side, and that means all is well with my soul.
Everyday is a blessing for GOD Is!

HAPPY RISEN LORD'S DAY!!!!

BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP

As I read the comments yesterday, on my post about celebrating our 50th Anniversary YEAR, I began reflecting on what a wonderful relationship Mickey & I have and how it was something that didn't just "happen" when we became husband & wife.

Mickey & I truly are enjoying the "fruits of our labor" that we have worked hard to develop. We have been through a lot of "stuff" during these 50 years. As I've shared often before, after 25 years our marriage suffered the worst blow any marriage can suffer. We were VERY tempted to just give up, "throw in the towel" and QUIT. BUT, we didn't!!!!! As good as the first 25 years were, and they truly over all were, these last 25 have been so much more.

As I was thinking on this yesterday I was thinking about, and relating it to, our relationship with God. Just as in marriage, or any other relationship, it must be developed, worked on, change and grow for it to truly be all God wants and intends for it to become. That we don't just accept and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior and suddenly have this deep, abiding, loving, mature relationship with God. We have to truly "get to know Him" better, to understand Him more completely and to be conformed to Him plans.

Lo and behold, last night when we went to Church the Pastors message was DEVELOPING A HEART FOR GOD!!! It was right along the lines that had been flowing through my mind all day. Pastor broke it down into 3 parts and I am going to share the 3 parts with you. The headings are from my Pastor, but the comments are my own thoughts.

1. An Open Heart - Getting rid of our pre-conceived ideas!!! Boy, now that's a big one in both marriage and our relationship to God. We don't just "live happily ever after" because we have become husband and wife. I know I spent a great deal of my life casting off "myths" that I had been taught. I got where I actually would say to myself, "Well, there goes another false myth!" as my eyes have been opened as it related to both my marriage and my knowledge of God. . We also don't automatically become one with God in body, spirit and soul, just because we've accepted Jesus as Savior. We have to be willing to learn the likes and dislikes, the moods, the good points and bad points of our spouse. We have to learn to know what God is really like by spending time in His Word. Learning that He is a loving God, a God of mercy and grace, but he is also a God of justice.

Just as we learn to love our spouse more deeply, as we go through both the good and the bad times together, we learn to know and understand God better, through both the good and the bad times. Yes, there are good and bad times in both our relationship with our spouse and our relationship with God. As we handle each situation, good or bad, we develop that "history" with one another that sustains us in future situations. Just as I've learned I can count on and depend on Mickey I have learned I can count and depend on God because I have the history and knowledge of past occasions.

2. A Transparent Heart - We must be real. We must be willing to share our greatest joys, and our greatest fears. We must be an open book to one another in marriage. In our relationship with God it is more about letting Him reveal our true heart, and selves, to ourselves. We are so good at deceiving our selves and refusing to look into those areas of thinking, conduct, and actions that we don't want to face. If we seek God with an open, willing heart He will go deep into our darkest parts and reveal them to us. We must desire and seek to be transparent.

3. A Broken Heart - We must be willing to confess when we have been wrong both to our spouse and to God. I have to add here also to ourselves. We must want the best for both our spouse and for God. We must get to the point where we are not willing to settle for anything but giving our best. We must be broken to know God's heart toward the lost of this world. To develop a real concern and passion that ALL come to know Him and the joy and satisfaction that we enjoy. To care about the needs and hurts of others.

The Church is called The Bride of Christ. We are called to be a pure and spotless Bride. We are being called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. For those of us who are married we have the perfect training ground for this in our marriage.

I wish for all of you to be blessed with the happy, secure, growing relationship in marriage that I enjoy in mine. I thank God daily for mine and I do not take it for granted.

More than the above, I wish for all of you to have and develop the happy, secure, growing relationship with your Lord & Savior that He intends. May we all strive and work to develop this most important of all relationship . May we truly KNOW HIM and love Him with all our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves .

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself." Matthew 22:37-39

Guidance

G U I D A N C E
(this is an e-mail I received and wanted to share with those of you who haven't seen it)

Dancing With God

When I meditated on the word Guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.
I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music, And everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, Both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back. Or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness, And attentiveness from one person. And gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word Guidance. When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "U" and "I" dance.

As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life.

I became willing to trust.

That I would get guidance about my life.

Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God's blessings and mercies are upon you on this day and every day. May you abide in God, as God abides in you. Dance together with God, trusting God to lead and to guide you through each season of life.

There is no cost but a lot of rewards; So let's continue to pray for one another.

And I Hope You Dance!

THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD

Thoughts on the sovereignty of God have been mulling around in my head for days. You know how something will settle in your mind and you just keep thinking and pondering on it and it just keeps popping up again and again.

Sovereign: 1) above all others; chief; supreme. 2) supreme in power, rank, etc. 3) independent of all others.

Now I doubt if there are very many who read my blog who do not believe in God as The supreme, chief, above all other God. Supreme in power and rank and independent of all others. But what does that really mean? What does it mean to my life? How do I fit this Sovereign God, who I believe in, into every aspect of my day.

I'm afraid too many see Him, and believe in Him, as this supreme, powerful personage but what does that mean to them and to their life? Kind of like we believe that The President of the United States is powerful, or the Queen of England, etc. But, it doesn't really have much to do with our everyday life or thinking as we go about our daily business. We do our thing and sort of fit God in on occasion and as needed.

What the sovereignty of God really means is that NOTHING happens to me, or in my life, that takes God by surprise because it all revolves around Him. This sovereign God who has numbered the very hairs on my head (Matt 10:30 & Luke 12:7); who knows my goings (Proverbs 20:24). This sovereign God who "Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not, yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure." Isaiah 46:10

I have just shared the following in e-mails to two blog friends who are dealing with situations in their lives. One to do with illness and the other with a job situation. Totally unrelated issues and yet I could tell them each the same thing because it fits anything and EVERY thing we might be facing at any given moment.

I've been thinking a LOT lately about the sovereignty of God. There are things you and I know for sure. 1) God does not bring illness 2) God works ALL things together for good to those who are called according to His purposes 3) God will never leave us or forsake us 4) God is not a God that He should lie.. In times like this we have to lean on and rely on God's promises and what we know to be TRUE in the face of whatever we see or feel.

The greatest gift is salvation, God is bringing us to Himself and He is conforming us into the image of Jesus. What that takes and how that works out in our individual lives is in His sovereign will.

I know you've heard the example of the beautiful tapestry that God is weaving and yet we look at the back side and all we see is a tangled mess of strings going every which way with no beauty or design that WE can see. I cannot tell you how much I have been thinking about all this the past week or so. In fact, Mickey and I had a long talk about it just yesterday morning.

We KNOW in whom we have believed and we are persuaded!!!!!!!!

That really does sum it up for me.....

I KNOW and I am Persuaded that God is sovereign in my life.

How about you?
